Wedding Things You Think Are Silly

So what "typical" wedding things do you think are silly or pointless? Or, someone please explain why you think these things are important- I'd love to hear your thoughts on them all! I'll start with mine- Wearing a garter (I'm not doing the garter toss) Inviting OOT guests to the rehearsal dinner...

I'll start with mine-

Wearing a garter (I'm not doing the garter toss)

Inviting OOT guests to the rehearsal dinner (have a second wedding? sure I can afford that...)

Buying specific forks/cutter/server for cake (I just don't understand why)

    Slideshows

    Favors

    Chair covers

    STDs

.... I'm sure I can think of more. I'll have a too young flower girl and ring bearer. My 20 month old son and god daughter. They'll be on a wagon though then ill have 4 year old flowergirl and ring bearer and 7 year old junior bride and junior groom.

Chair covers, Madeline? CHAIR COVERS?!?!? I cast thee out!

And I would love a unity shed. A shed would at least be practical, vs. a jar of sand that looks like a kindergartener's arts and crafts project. Better yet, couples should have to assemble a Unity Ikea Bookcase together. If they don't eye-stab each other with those little Allen wrenches, the marriage is a keeper.

HAHA Shannon! When FH and I first moved in together we had bought some Ikea furniture. After building it together, FH said "that's it, we can build ikea furniture together, we can do anything!"

Shit. I think I feel my feet getting hot... I guess I'm about to go out in flames!

The KKK thing with the chair covers and the drunken guests had me laughing. If it happens, it happens. At least people were having fun. o_0

I don't think anyone does this anymore but I really hated crossing arms while drinking wine or eating a piece of cake.

I can't stand long boring speeches. Make short, sweet and to the point - AND funny! Sappy ones piss me off.

Love video montage though hahaha, I can't help it. I know they're cheesy but I love em.

OMG - yes slideshow! The last wedding I was at the DJ has us all direct our attention to the screen and sit and watch. It was like 20 mins long. That was 20 minutes of my life I'll never get back. Our whole table was like geeze it's a bit much.

    This.

PLEASE STOP DOING THIS. Just take a picture WITH your BMs! I don't get it, you don't need a mirror to take a group pic. It's ugly and not cute.

Personalized napkins. Want to talk about disposable? Do people even notice them? Seems expensive for something that is literally trash at the end of the night.

The best "slide show" I saw was at a friend's wedding when they set up a picture table instead of making a slide show. Much less distracting yet managed to make the older family members happy.

Super matchy-matchy bridesmaids. They don't all need the same dress, same jewelry, same shoes, and same cheesy side ponytail.

What's worse is when they're lined up in height order, it makes me feel like I'm looking at those Russian nesting dolls. Like, the biggest bridesmaid is going to snap right in half and start absorbing the littler ones.

I guess we had an awful wedding since we had chair covers (sorry but the country club chairs were ugly), a slideshow (about 5 minutes long) and a few speeches (though each was 2-3 minutes long). But we did have a nice sit down dinner, open bar, ice cream cake, late lunch and an awesome DJ.

I agree with the unity thing. The wedding ceremony is enough.

Also add, tables that are named for things i.e. books, movies, etc. Just number the table since I don't know if the 'Little Women' table is near 'The Great Gatsby' or 'Wuthering Heights'.

Miss P, I can totally see the photographer setting this up.

"Now, Bride, I want you to lay down in the dirt right here, with your dress spread out so you get a bunch of twigs stuck in your panties. Groom, I want you to imagine the least appealing and most unrealistic sexual position ever, and reenact it for me. Now lay still while I scatter leaves all over your expensive clothes."

OMG, Shannon I literally laughed out loud! I really hate seeing this pin on pinterest and some (probably young girl) pinner with it captioned saying how awesome this picture it is. It's not awesome. It's dumb. How do you even frame it? It also does nothing for th bride's figure. blah. I almost get angry just looking at that and the mirror one.
