Wedding Things You Think Are Silly

So what "typical" wedding things do you think are silly or pointless? Or, someone please explain why you think these things are important- I'd love to hear your thoughts on them all! I'll start with mine- Wearing a garter (I'm not doing the garter toss) Inviting OOT guests to the rehearsal dinner...

I'll start with mine-

Wearing a garter (I'm not doing the garter toss)

Inviting OOT guests to the rehearsal dinner (have a second wedding? sure I can afford that...)

Buying specific forks/cutter/server for cake (I just don't understand why)

Personalized napkins- Nobody cares what their napkins look like

    Anything monogrammed- What's the point?

Guest books- I know who's coming, I made the guest list!

Cake toppers.... and I agree with the seating chart and most of the comments above! We are only doing the garter toss because he wants to and didn't get to do all the traditional stuff the first time.

Seating charts. Can your guests not pick out their own seats??? Talk about micromanaging.

When are people gonna realize that your pale chubby bridesmaids can NOT pull off a blush dress?

-I agree about inviting OOT guests to the rehearsal, yeah right!! No thank you for the second wedding, one day is enough.

    -veil covering the face

-money dances, especially when the DJ plays horrible music to go with it

-All the single ladies for the bouquet toss

    -Grooms cakes (sorry ladies!)

-Things that keep popping up and becoming traditions like the grooms cake, trashing the dress, love story videos, same day videography edits, engagement videos WTF.

Oooooh, I forgot one! Flash mob, super-ornate proposals. Like, there's romance, and then there's romance taking a backseat to your weird desire to be a Youtube celebrity.

Any kind of choreographed dance will look stupid. You WILL 100% look stupid.

Um, I also dislike that there are two threads about this same topic going on. I'm only posting on the one with more comments...

I do really dislike groom's cakes also. That wedding cake is not called a bride's cake. No need to have two.

OMG LSC_sf TRASHING THE DRESS!!!! How could I forget about that one? I just paid 2000 dollars for a dress, there is no way I am jumping around in the mud wearing that dress, or having paintballs shot at me, or going for a swim. This dress is an actual work. of. art. and I refuse to ruin it for a couple of silly pictures.

Bouquet tosses and ESPECIALLY garter tosses. Like, I'm not trying to have my husband go up my dress in front of grandma.

Pretty much any given thing about weddings can be considered silly (even me...gasp....) but the point is that every couple has different priorities and different visions of what their day is going to be. And while we have all probably been to a lot of weddings recently, many of your guests have not, so this won't be the 10th time they saw a photo booth in the last six months...

Silly to me? Anything you spend a lot of money on (and 'a lot' is relative) because someone else made you feel you have to. Anything anyone else wants but won't pay for. Inviting everyone you and your parents ever met/had dinner with/knew from childhood/have to repay with an invite. Rehearsal dinners with more than 30 guests. Two dresses. Cute signs. Details that no one notices, showers/bachelorette parties/bachelor parties and the stress they provoke in partners. Referring to your spouse as y our best friend, which very often isn't technically true (though I do that a lot....). Empty chairs with photos on them. Dr. Seuss vows. Favors of any sort. Dollar dances unless they are common in your circle. Embarrassing garter retrievals. Asking guests to dress in a certain color (or avoid one).

But it's really up to each couple to decide and if I'm your officiant, I'll defend to the death your prerogative to have, well, anything, lol.

Fine, Celia. For my vow renewal, I am insisting all guests dress in Dr. Seuss costumes. I'm wearing three different dresses, and the first three rows will be empty chairs with photos of all the celebrities I invited who didn't show up.

    Wanna officiate?

Victoria I don't get it either!! When did it become such a tradition or a new option to trash the wedding dress?!! So what if I'm not going to wear it again I'm not going to roll in the mud with it!!!! Drives me nuts!

Miss P. - the photo of the bride and groom is pretty in an aesthetic, artistic sense and in a "I'd love to see that in a bridal magazine" sense. If my photographer asked me to actually pose that way, I'd roll my eyes and make the "gag me" sign. Me in that pose would be an epic fail.

We are doing a garter toss, but I told FH that there was NO way he was putting his head up my skirt. I don't mind the tradition, but I have boundaries. Seriously. Our grandparents are there. Weird...

Also hate all the little, pointless details that cost a ton of money like chargers and expensive chairs and super crazy elaborate centerpieces. 98% of your guests don't even notice...

    Agree to disagree. Smiley smile

I really think it's silly. If it were for advertising I wouldn't know what the product was that was being advertised, certainly not the dress because it doesn't look like it'd be flattering on any figure, unless one wants to look like a white balloon. Artistic....meh...not to me. Too posed, too awkward, and the groom looks like an amputee at the angle the photographer took this at. It was a decent try.

Cheesy photography is an urk of mine. I don't want to pay someone thousands for silly poses. It just doesn't look natural in the slightest.

Hahaha. Okay, I'll definitely give you that one. I'd have NO idea either. Then again, I feel like most bridal magazines I look at have tons of photos like that where you have no idea what the dress would actually look like because the "bride" is in some weird, non-human pose.

Personalized napkins. Why spend extra money on something that people will wipe their mouths (makeup, noses) with! They'll just get thrown away and wasted. Umm no thanks.

Oooh I thought of another one! Fisheye photos. I don't know why this became popular, but watching a gorgeous photo get all sorts of distorted because the photographer is using a fisheye lens just kills me. That is going on my contract- NO FISHEYE!

No offense intended, but I am also over tiaras. Seen too many tacky ones to think they're cute any longer...
