Wedding Programs? Do or No Do?

JuneBride27, on June 16, 2015 at 9:51 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 34

So, wedding plans are coming together, and we're just about done! Except for one thing;

Wedding programs.

I kinda wanted to do wedding programs so guests could know the order of the ceremony, who is who, and it makes for a great keepsake (at-least for us and the parents/grandparents). At the same time, my mom just thinks I should skip out on it; we don't have enough money/time to buy any fancy ones. So I am thinking, if it is possible to find a simple online template, I can put one together (I know how, and I enjoy putting together things like this.)

Another option is to just not do it. Would it really be a big deal to skip out on wedding programs? Should I go ahead and just make some myself?

I don't think its a big deal. FH didn't want them, but my mom insisted because my family likes to know who everyone is lol

Rack cards make great programs for cheap. Look on Zazzle or VistaPrint.

@MJ Bride my mom and I don't care for them THAT much, (maybe I do a bit more, but either way I'm fine with whatever). What if I just printed out like, 50, and just allowed the family members to keep them. Will the guests mind? I know from past experiences that guests don't really keep them unless they're close to you. They usually throw them away a week after the wedding (I'm guilty of this Smiley tongue).

I am definitely a fan of Vista Print. If you do get them, get it for about half the guest count. I ended up throwing a lot out. Most people didn't take it.

Your wedding is 10 days away, I would do it like now if you're going to do it. VistaPrint has to process the order, print them and ship them. If you're going the online route I think you need to do it like yesterday.

It sounds like you are excited about doing it because you want people to know who is who and all that. It's your wedding. As a day-of coordinator, I am constantly reminding my brides that it's their day, not anyone else's. If it makes you happy, do it. If the time and cost stresses you out, don't do it. Decide if you are in the mood to relax these last few days or do something creative and fun that you like. Happiness is the priority! Enjoy the next few weeks!

I planned on them, but did not have time to make them. Not required.

I have programs that were fairly inexpensive from ETSY.

Put the program on a paper fan. These would be inexpensive to make and if you get help, could be completed in one night.

Our ceremony is outside so this would work perfect for us, i just haven't decided if i'm doing it.

I made mine via Word and printed them at Office Depot. We had a greek orthodox service, 45 minutes long and in both Greek and English so I thought the program would be helpful in explaining the different parts.

I had them...it was kinda necessary. When I assembled the invitations I was having a couple cocktails and some people didnt get a reception card (in some cases two RSVP cards) so I wanted to be sure that they knew where the reception was. I didn't even know if they were passed out until I had asked a couple people and they said yes.

Also, as a guest, I like to look at something while I'm waiting for the reception to start

I vote no. I feel like it's a waste of money. We have a tight budget though, so you may have more flexibility. I am more interested in allocating the money towards the food and decor.

@Maltese ooo, good point. I haven't thought about the cocktail/dinner reception info. We are thinking it might rain (we were going to have an outdoor reception) and we need to let people know about the backup plan.

I looked at the websites some of you suggested, but it won't ship in time. So, I am thinking about downloading a free template and printing them out on stock paper, about 50 of them. We do need some sort of insert for guests to know where the location of the reception will be, if there is a change of plans.

I'm personally not doing them since it won't be a religious ceremony. I would say if you want them go the DIY route and let people grab them before seated if they want to

I say no. I think they are nice but unnecessary. We are skipping out because we don't need any more decisions or projects.

We aren't doing them. I don't think they're necessary, unless you want them for your guests to have as a keepsake. They are really needed though, so you should be good without them! =)
