Wedding Planners...Yes or No?

MegLuvsChris, on February 21, 2011 at 6:49 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

I just wanted to get every ones opinion on Wedding Planners...I am personally hiring one because I am having a destination wedding across the country and I thought it would keep my stress level at a low knowing that I have someone who actually knows the area, vendors, etc where I am getting married. Our agreed upon amount will be 14% of my budget which I personally think she is more than going to pay for herself after its all said & done, but what is your opinion?

Did/Are you hiring one?

If Yes, Why & if No, why not?

Any advice, words of wisdom etc?

I did not hire one. However, I wish I had for our DW. Finding the vendors was a real pain in the butt. Thankfully, our caterer and her staff will help decorate and act as DOC.

Good luck. It will def save you some aggravation.

I'm not having one because it would have cost between $6000 to $8000 in my area and would have entailed that I make compromises on the quality of wedding I wanted to have. I felt that because I had time and generally knew what I wanted, I could tackle one task at a time and do it myself. Overall I am very happy with my decision.

If I were having a DW, my thinking may have been different as I would need help with vendor selection and management.

I have a wedding planner for Day of Coordination and all aspects of decor. I am so happy that I have her because she has been able to give me direction and help me pull all my ideas together. She's also been great with vendor referrals and keeping me on target with getting things accomplished. I've also gotten so really good discount because she referred me. I say go for it!

I have a wedding planner because my wedding is in FH's mother's home town and 4 hours from me, (7 hours for FH). She knows good and more importantly reliable vendors in the area and has steered us towards better ones than we would have found on our own.

I'm glad I have one also to defer the uninvited opinions I get from everywhere and I can just say, "my wedding planner is taking care of that."

It also helps me to not have to worry about making phone calls during working hours so I am not (too) distracted at work with wedding planning trying to make phone calls, signing and faxing contracts, etc.

We choose not to have one for the simple fact that I didn't think I needed one. But we are having a day of coordinator to make sure things stay on track on the day of the wedding.

I am not having one because my wedding will be under 75 people. For me, personally, I don't need one. I'm very organized and like to do things myself. I know they can help you get better vendor prices but I just don't see the point. Plus, I don't have it in my budget. We are paying for everything ourselves.

I did use a DOC and she was well worth every penny.....If anything went wrong, which I have no idea...she took care of it......the DJ, caterer, photographer all did everything to perfection because she was there making sure.....The presentation of decor, on cue, because I had someone to make sure it all went out as instructed.....The stress level is extremely low when you have someone to over see every detail! Just my opinion !!!

I think it's very smart of you to get one since you are having a destination wedding!! The last thing you need is the added stress of not knowing the locations and vendors ahead of time. This way you'll have eyes and ears there for you. Good job!!!
