Wedding Party paying for Rehearsal Dinner?

I'm in another wedding this coming fall, and it's been told to us by the MOH that the bridesmaids will be hosting the rehearsal dinner as well as the bridal shower, bachelorette party, and a spa day sleepover with the bride the night before the wedding. Is this a thing? I'm a little taken back, and truly don't think I can afford all of this since I'm paying my wedding and honeymoon and will be a little strapped for cash at that point.

What in the entire actual fuck from Fuckville?

This is insane. I would be ending the friendship and sending letters from shipyourenemiesglitter.com.

    That's a letter she'll never forget.

    Get out. Walk don't run.

I did pay for my best friends RD (I was MOH) bc the grooms family wouldn't and otherwise they wouldn't have had one. So i offered them either money for alcohol for the wedding or for the RD. I would've chosen alcohol personally, but it was their wedding. I told them I would book the place and pay and sit quietly to the side and no one needed to know.

The grooms family ended up acting like they WERE hosting it, to the point of making speeches, passing out baby pictures, and handing out to go boxes and begging people to take food because there was SO MUCH LEFTOVER. I was horrified as were my parents. They never said thank you or acknowledged me in anyway.

I let it go because I was happy that my friend got what she wanted but she and my family and I laughed about it for DAYS.

    Don't do it.

This is nuts. I'm surprised you're not dropping out. Let us know what MOH says when you tell you you're not paying for it.

I can't believe she gave you homework.

SageTree, how much has this girl contributed for your wedding? On some lever she has to know how wrong this is, and she doesn't want it to sound like her idea. At first I was thinking the MOH is like that one girl from the movie Bridesmaids but i'm thinking that may not be the case. I'd talk to the rest of the BP if you can, maybe the MOH can coordinate something, b/c they can't all agree with this. And why does the letter have to be mailed? Why not just give it to her the day of? sorry but your friend sounds like a bridezilla.

I LOVE the glitter letter idea!

She is in my wedding. My family hosted the bridal shower and didn't ask for a dime from the BP for the shower. The bachelorette party was funded by everyone, a nice beach day that wasn't costly (I made sure of it because I didn't want it to cost anyone, they brought snacks and booze). I have a fully hosted RD for everyone and purposefully going by myself to get my nails done as to not add another thing to their agenda. The dresses were in the budget they decided as they got to pick them out theirselves.

That's why I was so confused. I felt like I did everything right trying to accommodate, and now this.

I'm not going to even discuss this with the MOH until after my wedding. I'm ok with being a bridezilla about that fact, "It's MY time, I'll get back to you after my HM".

Thank you all for the encouragement! Not getting bulldozed on this one then!

Say no! That's the weirdest thing ever. The whole point of the rehearsal dinner is to thank your bridal party not vice versa!! And doing homework?? Just no...

I wouldn't dream of being entitled enough to ask my best friends to pay for any of that... asinine.

Oh wow, no. You shouldn't be EXPECTED to cover any of these things and then if you choose to host one it is a gift to the couple, not a responsibility of the bridal party. Big nope for me - I would have to bow out.

The rehearsal dinner is supposed to be hosted and paid for by the grooms family, since traditionally, the brides family is supposed to pay for the wedding. Hugggge nope.

Hahaha, I wish I could give you that information. She's very much all about the look of things. She's on social media constantly about her pinterest lifestyle. #1 year until I marry this hunk (pic of a cute beverage), #8 months (pic of her shadow overlooking water), #125 days... the list goes on. Pics of her invites, pics of the bridesmaid boxes, pics of ring, pics of crafts she makes counting down days. I may just be venting now, but it's a bit much.

    .

The MOH told us that she's been asking for all of this extra stuff, but she won't tell us directly. Part of me thinks that she's trying to make it look like the MOH is coming up with all of this stuff.

Wow... Just... Wow. My moh is throwing me a bridal shower and Im worried its too much work. My mom is constantly asking if theres anything I need help with re:wedding diy's and Im hardly giving her anything b/c i dont want to make anyone work for this wedding but me and fh. (she is watching my overflow succulents, I ran out of room in the house.)

Your friend & her moh really have no clue what happens in a /real/ wedding. I guarantee theyve watched all the wedding shows, but tv drama is not accurate to real life, nor is a pinterest wedding achievable by the average diy-er. The bride needs a wakeup call, or the moh needs to tell her she is asking too much of her girls and that she is going to ruin friendships if she doesnt slow her roll.

Or if you want to be EXTRA petty (which was my unofficial minor in college), you can add on a bag of sugar free gummy bears as an extra wedding gift.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, just Google "sugar free gummy bears Amazon reviews".
