Wedding Party paying for Rehearsal Dinner?

I'm in another wedding this coming fall, and it's been told to us by the MOH that the bridesmaids will be hosting the rehearsal dinner as well as the bridal shower, bachelorette party, and a spa day sleepover with the bride the night before the wedding. I'm in another wedding this coming fall, and it's been told to us by the MOH that the bridesmaids will be hosting the rehearsal dinner as well as the bridal shower, bachelorette party, and a spa day sleepover with the bride the night before the wedding. Is this a thing? I'm a little taken back, and truly don't think I can afford all of this since I'm paying my wedding and honeymoon and will be a little strapped for cash at that point.

Yeah, I would NOT be doing that "homework". That is is most asinine thing that I have heard in a long time.

You should print out this entire thread and send it in for your "homework".

SageTree, I know you know this, but being in a wedding party is an honour. For you. Not for the wedding couple. It's not a job and it shouldn't come with additional financial commitments. I say this except for buying your attire for the day.

Ohhh what the effing crap...NO. The ONLY THING you are required to pay for is your bridesmaids dress.IF you attend showers or bachelorette that is OPTIONAL to help financially. Hell to the no on the rehearsal dinner funding. I'm sure others have responded this way but I'm just so heated I didn't read through just responded lol!!

I'm glad you're putting your foot down on the RD and spa day. I can tell you're trying really hard not to rock the boat, but honestly? Someone needs to put this 'zilla in her place! This crazy train's only going to get worse the more you and the other bridesmaids cave to her ridiculous demands. I second the person who said to print this thread out for your "homework".

OP, this whole thing is so rude. She (like many other people in our generation unfortunately) seems to be completely obsessed with having the perfect life on social media. I actually feel bad for her because you can't possibly enjoy your life when you are more concerned about appearing like you're having a good time, than actually having a good time. Also, your wedding is coming up so soon. I am so sorry that you have to worry about HER wedding instead of yours right now. I strongly suggest you let the girls know that this is YOUR time and they need to back off. It is so disrespectful that you have "homework" the week of your honeymoon. You seemed to have done everything right for your wedding. I did the same. I know you love this girl, as you say, but I'm sorry to tell you she doesn't seem to love you as much. She (and the girls in her bridal party) are completely disregarding your wedding. This is YOUR time to be a BRIDE. You can worry about being a bridesmaid later.

You remind me of a friend of mine who was in a similar situation and the MOH for her friend who was obsessed over how things "look" from the outside while treating the ones closest to her like garbage. Anyway hopefully unlike my friend it gets better for the actual wedding (if you decide to hang around that long)

To give you a clue one of the brides meltdowns on the wedding day was delaying the guests from being served dinner on time. My friend was like oh hell no. Lol.

Oh fuck no. Usually the Aunt pays for bridal shower, RD is paid by groom's parents and bachelorette is paid by MOH

Holy smokes girlfriend needs a reality check!!!! Honestly can't deal with those people who feel the need to make their lives seem like this extravagant (FAKE) parade on social media, worst part is that everybody in the real world always knows it's bull as well!! Dude totally stand your ground it's completely rude for her to be EXPECTING y'all to pay for literally any of these events, but downright ridiculous that she's demanding the rehearsal dinner which (as it's been said on this thread approximately 10million times) is LITERALLY A CELEBRATION OF THE BRIDAL PARTY?!?! I'm honestly so confused and it's actually so ballsy of her!! Blown away! Stand your ground tho especially as you made life so easy for her in your wedding!!!

Don't do the homework and when she asks where it is (therefore making it blatant that she asked for it in the first place, which is embarrassing enough) reply "omg hahaha I thought that assignment was a joke!"

    Nope.

This is not standard at all.

Additionally, the bride should clearly communicate expectations for involvement (financial and time) before anyone agreed to be a bridesmaid, especially if it strays from what is standard.

It is common for bridesmaids to pay for their own primary attire (dress) and any reasonable accommodations to be involved in the wedding (reasonably priced hotel room night before and after). Often they help plan a bachelorette or shower, but not all brides have both or either of these events, and the financial contribution expected from maids varies greatly. Sometimes maids pay for modest accessories (shoes). If specific jewelry or hair accessories are required, the bride should gift those. If professionally done hair and makeup are required, the bride pays for that. Rehearsal dinner is the responsibility of the couple (or traditionally, the groom's parents); wedding is responsibility of the couple (or traditionally, the bride's parents, albeit these customs are pretty outdated among modern couples).

I would 100% balk at planning and paying for all the things that have been asked of you. It's unreasonable, especially if these things are coming up down the line and were not discussed early on or prior to bridesmaids committing.
