Wedding on a Budget

Heather, on May 2, 2018 at 12:04 AM Posted in Massachusetts Planning 1 9
Anyone have any helpful tips and tricks for planning a wedding on a budget? I'm not a wicked materialistic person, and honestly I just want to marry my best friend. I've determined I cant get out of having it at a legitimate site because our families are too large so we need a large enough space for the reception. I'm looking into venues that include more than just the ceremony and food in their packages, such as decorations, planner, etc. Any other tips for cutting certain trendy things out to save costs?

I'm not quite sure about a budget because I thought I could keep it cheap, but now it's looking like I'll be spending at least around $10,000 on the venue and catering. So now I'm hoping to keep it under $15,000, especially if I go with the cheapest venue I've found which is around $8,000 (with catering and some decorations). For dates, I really liked May 18, 2019, but because of the expense, I'm not sure if we'll be able to save up enough in time, so now I'm also looking at October 5, 2019. Location I'm looking mainly in Berkshire County, MA, but I've also emailed a few in other areas of the state.

I would definitely recommend creating a budget for planning using the WeddingWire budget tool located here . A lot factors come in place when booking a venue and planning your wedding day such as the month, day, location, time frame etc. For instance May 18th and October 5th fall on Saturdays which tends to be one of the more expensive days. Here is a report for the average cost of wedding venues in the Massachusetts area so you can get a feel for where you compare. Have you made a guest list yet? That is also a big factor when creating a budget.

October is high demand in MA too (I'm getting married in Cambridge). Check early spring dates (March/April) or winter that aren't as popular. You'll be more likely to cut a deal on everything

Butternut farm in stow is where I'm getting married. If you do a Friday night Wedding or a Sunday wedding you save money. Also hurricane candle with the mirror and any color linen and napkins are included. Wedding coordinator and beautiful venue with a fire place and doing some DIY you won't need much for decor which saves you money because they have so many colors to choose from for linen.

If you haven't found a place yet and are looking for something affordable and rustic, I can recommend The Barn on Benson's Pond. Here is the link: https://bensonspond.com/the-barn/ It was under $1000 to rent the place and the tables and chairs are included. I am using Nadia Carlevale from Favoloso Wedding & Events as my Wedding Coordinator and she is very affordable and our caterer is Sara's Cooking (she's out of Framingham) https://www.sarascooking.net/. Our wedding is on 10/27/18.
