Music for special things like first dance or just to generally play? Our DJ asked if we had any must play or do not play songs. We didn't specify music other than spotlight dances/cake cutting and the like. We hired the DJ to read the room and play music that would get people on the dance floor and they just that. If you have certain songs, I would give them those or at least tell them what genres of music you like, but if you don't have a specific playlist, that's ok to.

Most djs read the crowd but they want to know if you have must-play music such as first dance or favorite songs, as well as any do-not-play songs/artists.

Our DJ has asked for 25-30 songs, a do not play list and “special” songs as well. Cocktail hour, entrance, dinner music etc. I’m thinking by giving our list he will get a good feel for music we like. Exciting!!!
