Wedding Massages

As a massage therpist, my gift to all of my friends for their weddings was a massage. Most of them had it done the morning of the wedding to relax them. I highly suggest some sort of relaxation before the big day!

LOL. I understand what you're saying, but in my book, if that bothers you, your back doesn't hurt enough. Smiley winking

Fins, ever since that nuclear accident, my fingers have started to vibrate on their own. Must be why I'm so popular...

I would say I know/am friends with A LOT of my clients. Maybe that's why I'm in awe when I hear someone say its weird or they'd die laughing if a friend touches them. Being NCMT also saved me a forture on my wedding. I didn't have to pay for tuxes, the wedding planner, the band, or my hair, other than it costed me a few hours of my time. Plus, my husband tells me its a huge perk for him. Smiley winking

If my friend was a gynecologist I wouldn't go to them either - even if it saved me money.

Didn't say RMT/LMT were wrong, just that I wouldn't perfer a massage froma friend, anytime, let alone the morning of my wedding due to random allergies and time restraints. I love massages. The best one I had was on our honeymoon, it was a couples massage. I could fully relax, it was excellent. The one I had at the resort two days earlier was weird, un-relaxing and kind of creepy.

Candice, that's just the way my phone is acting up today. We are in a temporary house so I haven't unpacked the computer yet.

You gave multiple massages the morning of your wedding? Shouldn't you have been the one relaxing?

Nicole, no. Instead of me paying money for certain things like tux rental, they asked for massages instead since they're all my clients anyway. 2 weeks after the wedding, I gave each of them their end of the trade. I did about one a week until they were all done. It worked out better than I imagined, since they all tipped, plus they all rebooked. Talk about good business!

That actually sounds really unethical to me. Wouldn't transference be an issue here?

Personally I can see how some others say it would be creepy, I guess it depends on the person. I for one would be creeped out if my friend offered to give me a massage on anything below the neck line LOL. I'd prefer someone I don't know well.

Once again I ask..whats the point of this post rochelle?

"Most of them had it done the morning of the wedding to relax them."

Unless I have trouble reading...this sounds like you massaged them the day of the wedding.

Grow up? What does that have to do with anything? Your crossing an ethical line and I pointed it out.

    1. Having personal relations with clients outside of your office is very unprofessional.

    2. Trading massages for other services is also very unprofessional.

Mags, it's terribly immature to point out the logical and ethical lapses of others. The mature, adult thing to do is let people spin off into their own imaginary universes.

The only ethics that apply to massage therapists are not to touch in the wrong place or in the wrong way and not to hit on clients (or respond favorably if they are hit on).

How many people on here have friends who are MUA's doing their wedding makeup, or friends who are photogs taking pictures? Same thing. I mean, if you're not comfortable receiving a massage from someone you are also friends with, that is your prerogative, but there is nothing unethical about it. There's nothing unethical about trading services (in most cases, certainly including massage services) either. I don't see a problem. (Granted, the IRS would still consider what you received in exchange for professional services as income, but we are NOT talking taxes here.)
