Wedding dress doesn't fit & I have lost weight!

Jennifer, on July 17, 2013 at 11:47 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17

I'm really irritated. Our wedding is next Saturday the 27th. I purchased my dress in January. I am normally a size 6 to 8. I tried on an 8 & although I was able to get the dress on, i needed a bigger size. I know that European sizes are smaller than American sizes so I wasn't surprised. I ordered a 12 since the sizes were only a difference of one inch. I picked the dress up & it fit great. Even had a little extra room in it, but since its a lace up back that wasn't a big deal. Problem is, I shipped my dress to NY (where the wedding is) last week & I tried it on today. My seamstress couldn't even get the panel in the back to snap! It's too small all of a sudden! It makes no sense since I have LOST probably 6 to 8 lbs since I first tried the dress on!

Has anyone ever had a dress shrink from shipment, altitude or climate change? I know it sounds crazy but none of this makes sense. The dress was sent from my house in Arizona (dry climate)to my Mom in NY (humid climate.)

I'm just stumped

I lost about 10 pounds after I bought my dress and now it fits tighter. It can still zip up but it's too tight around the midsection so I think mine shrank too.

Ummmm that is horrifying. I'm so sorry!! I haven't heard of that. Can the seamstress fix it?!

Have you been doing weights? Sometimes the added bulk of muscle can actually add inches (though usually the fat loss compensates, but maybe you lost it from different areas?)

You have a week. I would have her working on that night and day until then. I haven't heard of a dress shrinking but maybe they sent you the wrong size.

She thinks she can fix it, but we will see. She is a friend so I know she will do all she can. I just tried the dress on 2 1/2 weeks ago and it fit just fine. So they didn't send me the wrong size. And I haven't gained weight since then. I'm not doing weighs either so it couldn't be bulk from muscle.

My period is due so I'm chalking it up to that although I don't feel bloated or swollen at all. It's just the oddest thing ever. I've tried it on in 2 different shops since I first picked it up & it was fine. Maybe my seamstress wasn't "forceful" enough when trying to snap it? Lol. I prefer it tight in certain areas so it doesn't go anywhere. I'm not sure, but she is working on moving the snaps over for now to see if it helps.

it is super hot in NY right now and thats probably what it is. Your body is probably swelling (even tho it may not be visible) bc of the heat & humidity we are dealing with right now. The only thing i can suggest is drink LOTS of plain water (sugary stuff may make u swell too) and foods high in water content, but don't skimp on your protein either!

It sure is hot here in WNY that is for sure. It is probably the combination of the heat and water weight because of your period.

Are you using the same undergarments? I had to smith bras because my dress was too tight with a padded one.

As far as I know there is no difference between on climate or the other in terms of shrinking. You do have a week to fix this.

Don’t do weights, that adds muscle it may not look like but that could be the reason, give up the salt at all, drink a lot of water and walk a lot this week, that will make you lose some of that extra inches you have.

And remember no fast food, no heavy diners and eat as healthy as possible.

Yeah I think I must just be bloated or swollen in area from humidity and not realize it. The scale is definitely not broken - lol. I don't even have a scale, so the only way I know I've lost weight is from people's comments and the fact that the rest of my clothes fit looser than they did 3 months ago. I eat very healthy already so I'm just going to keep doing that and drink tons of water. I go Saturday to try on the dress again after she has a chance to move the snaps on the panel & go from there. Hopefully it won't take much more than that. Also I did have a different bra on the other day than when I originally picked up the dress 2 weeks ago. That could have made a difference too.

It's like the worst thing that could have happened. I mean all we brides dream about is feeling beautiful on my wedding day. It's crazy. It just makes no sense that I'm 5'7 and a size 8 normally (sometimes a 6 depending on the item,) and all of a sudden I can't wear a dress that is 2 sizes bigger when I've lost a few pounds? So strange!

Jennifer, number one, wedding dress sizes almost always run small, so don't let the 12 part about it make you feel bad. I mean really, it's just a damn number and we all know that not all clothes the same size fit the same, every designer is different.

Like others said, make sure you have the same undergarments on, I know that makes a difference with my dress, and did you ever measure yourself??? I gain at least an inch when I bloat from food, heat, etc.
