Wedding day undergarments and other torture devices.

Private User, on July 25, 2013 at 5:33 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 31

So I bought my dress from a little boutique. Before I even started trying on dresses she had me put on a pair of spanx. So I picked my dress and she recommended by the spanx to "contour" and "make the dress fit better". So a couple of weeks ago I had my FH go and buy them from her and I wore them the next day to a wedding. They were so tight and constricting. I felt extremely uncomfortable all night. I felt like I was in a torture device from the Saw movie all night.

Now my dress is a Sophia Tolli with about 5 layers underneath it and a corset back. I feel like I don't need to wear it. When my SIL got married she just wore a cute pair of white thongs, granted she's thin with no belly fat in sight.

What are you ladies wearing under your dresses?

I am wearing one of those long line bras and a slip to poof out my dress I'm sure with a cute pair of underwear underneath. Not looking forward to the long line bra but I have a "blessed" chest.

Is your dress form fitting? I assume as long as you don’t have a tight form fitting dress there is no need for Spanx but then again who am I?

I’m not a skinny girl by any means and I won’t be wearing Spanx, but my dress is full and poufy...

It's form fitting but it has a lot of layers under it. I just had it on the other day and I think it looked great. Nothing was bulging out.

I am working on getting a long line bra - ordered my normal size and the Cups were way to small so am waiting on the replacement to arrive.

I also ordered ASSETS by Sara Blakely Nude Fantastic Firmers Shaper Half Slip that I could wear under my dress If I decide I want to. I have worn it around the house and it fits well. Decided on a slip so to avoid the pull down factor of spanx while in my dress.

Then I think you got your answer, if you feel better without the under garments; then I say go without them. It matters how you feel in it, it’s your day! You don’t want to feel uncomfortable all night! Either way, Good Luck!

If you feel great in the dress without them - they don't wear them. That being said, not all cinching undergarments are uncomfortable, but you'll probably be more comfortable without them.

I am a larger girl (size 18) and have this shapewear: http://www.bodywrap-shapewear.ca/The-Catwalk-High-Waist-p/44821.htm ; I also have the one with straps (but you still wear your own bra.) This is the first shape wear I have found that stays in place and isn't extremely hot (it is like a very thick pantyhose material, but somehow is very firm support.)

I find strapless bras to be the bane of my existence. Have bought several over the years and have yet to find one that supports but isn't super uncomfortable. I am forgoing a bra on the big day so that I can be comfortable. I have a corset back dress, and my tatas actually look better without the bra in the dress.

    Good luck!

I'm also probably going with the longline bra (darn these big girls) but will more than likely end up changing out of them when it's time to go back to the hotel Smiley winking

Also, I'm doing a few of those body wraps in the weeks before the wedding... in order to tighten up as much as possible Smiley smile

Okay here's my question. If your wearing spanx how on earth are you gonna go pee with that dress on! Stuff like that goes up pretty high. Seriously are brides just not supposed to pee?

I only wore underwear. Cups were sewn into my dress and it also had a built in corset inside (not a tie up one) so I didn't need anything in terms of bras or shapewear.

I have a set of spanx I've worn to other formal events. They're not super fun by any means but I'm not miserable in them. And for the peeing thing: mine actually have a pee hole. Like a literal hole in my crotch. I'm completely baffled by that--are you not supposed to wear underwear and just let yourself air out all night???? I've never used the pee hole and just pull them down if I have to go. But every time I wear them I just laugh

I'm wearing a longline bra with just plain, microfiber (read: breathable), seamless undies. I am not wearing a slip of any lower body shape wear.

The shapewear I have has a large hole in the crotch as well, so you don't have to take them down to pee (I have used this before and it is weird, but something I will deal with for the wedding day.) As for letting yourself "air out" - I actually wear panties over top of the shapewear so I don't feel so naked.

I'm wearing a fit n flare dress. I will have cups sewn in so I don't have to wear a bra. I'll also be wearing a slip to give the dress a nice shape.

This thread is hilarious lol. My spanx doesn't have a "pee hole" (I'm seriously laughing while typing this) and they are the one that come all the way up so it would be a major pain to go to the bathroom. I didn't even think of that. I think I'll go without it.

I'm just going to wear a half bra and maybe a thong. I will have more than enough to deal with in getting the dress off when the reception is over...I'm not also going to fight with a corset or spanx or any other disguise.
