Wedding day undergarments and other torture devices.

So I bought my dress from a little boutique. Before I even started trying on dresses she had me put on a pair of spanx. So I bought my dress from a little boutique. Before I even started trying on dresses she had me put on a pair of spanx. So I picked my dress and she recommended by the spanx to "contour" and "make the dress fit better". So a couple of weeks ago I had my FH go and buy them from her and I wore them the next day to a wedding. They were so tight and constricting. I felt extremely uncomfortable all night. I felt like I was in a torture device from the Saw movie all night.

Now my dress is a Sophia Tolli with about 5 layers underneath it and a corset back. I feel like I don't need to wear it. When my SIL got married she just wore a cute pair of white thongs, granted she's thin with no belly fat in sight.

What are you ladies wearing under your dresses?

Can't I just throw on some comfy granny panties Haha. My concern is chub rub ha. You know when your thighs rub together to much. But hopefully all this exercise will take care of that

OMG Nadine... was just about to mention chub rub! Especially since I will probably be sweating a lot I am afraid the chaffing will be super bad if I don't wear spanx!

OP, if you like the way you look in your gown with no shapewear, than don't wear any! Sounds to me like the salesgirl was just trying to up her commission!

Ugh I am trying to figure out what to wear under my dress. I am a big girl so I need a lot of help. I was really pleasantly surprised by how supportive the built in support on my dress is though.

I am trying to figure out if I should wear a strapless bra or get cups sewn in the bodice. I need some alterations on the bodice because my chest doesn't fill out the cups of the dress as they are.

I'm looking in to high waist panty style shapewear. My dress is A-line/Ballgown so the only area I need to slim down is my tummy.

Should I look in to a long line bra or corset??

I don't know what to do! I order 2 different shaping products yesterday so we'll see how those work!

I have a pair of Spanx with a pee hole. I've never used it because I'm always afraid I will get pee on the Spanx!

@ Abby I have the same thought. What if I get a pair with the pee hole and pee all over myself?

I like the spanx I have because like the other girls mentioned it will help out with the damn chub rub but the one I have is so uncomfortable. Maybe I'll just look into something that will help with the chub run, smooth me out a bit but not be a mission to get on and off.

This thread is relevant to my interests. As a larger girl with a tummy, I really need the help.

Seriously, I am taking a posse of girls to go get opinions on shapewear and help me do it right. I need a strapless bra with my dress, which I've never worn, so perhaps a bustier wouldn't be bad.

Of course, one of my close female friends is a form VS salesgirl and is an "undergarment aficionado" so I feel like I'm in capable hands if she's around.

I worked at David's Bridal for seven or so months and it really depended on the type of dress. For more torso fitted dresses that had corsets, we really didn't push the need for a long line bra or spanx because the corset will shape that area. Some people did it for "double comfort" if they felt they needed it to be more smooth. But the corset usually did it.

If you just had a fitted bodice with a zipper or buttons, we usually recommended the long line bra and some brides wore short spanx underneath that as well.

Me, personally, I want to wear a ball gown type dress with a fitted bodice. I'll probably just wear a long line bra and MAYBE short spanx so my thighs don't rub........ hahah.

Oh and definitely try on your dress with or without before buying to see what fit is different so you can get the ideal pieces. I could always tell usually which dresses people weren't bras in. The long line bra isn't just to make your boobs look nice, but to give shape to the front of the dress and so it doesn't sag underneath the bust line.

My guess is the Spanx where not the right size..they should feel comfortable wearing them. If they make you feel unconfortable and you feel you don't need to wear them..don't.

My dress has a built in support system and shapewear, however, its across my midsection when I'm pretty sure my bum is what could use some slimmin' down. In regard to the thighs rubbing together, there is something at sporting good stores that looks like deodorant but its made for runners and you put it on your thighs so they don't rub together. A girl that I know just got married and she used it and told me it was a life saver. I need to pick some up before next weekend! So no "chub rub" as Nadine calls it haha.
