Wedding Cakes...when did you book your baker?!

Mrs. Del Grosso, on August 9, 2012 at 9:29 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 12

So I already know where I am ordering my wedding cake from. I have yet to do any cake tastings or anything with them (my best friend/Maid of Honor) ordered cupcakes from there for her daughter's first birthday, cupcakes were DELICIOUS!

So my question is, how early did you book your baker/did cake tastings? I have less than 11 months left.

Thanks!!!!

We did our tasting and booked our bakery about a month and a half prior to the wedding. However the only reason it was done so close to the wedding was because we got married out of state. Our cake was one of the things on our "Must do in person" list and we were unable to get to Maryland until mid-March.

Our bakery recommend on their website to book at least 6 months in advance. However they still had availability for us on our day despite booking so close to the wedding. So it would depend on your bakery and how popular they are and how many contracts they will accept for a certain date.

We also booked about a month before the wedding. We were also planning OOT, but the reason was that our cake was a last minute "request" from family who always use this bakery, and we've tasted their cakes before so I felt totally confident just ordering over the phone.

I wouldn't wait until the last minute unless you need to. If you know what bakery you like, I'd just go ahead and do it. You might have to put down a deposit, but they'll confirm your total order and amounts closer to the wedding anyway so you probably have lots of time to change your mind about flavors or design.

Getting married nov 2, only having a dessert reception, feeding 200, booked our cake just over 3 months out. Our cake's costing more than my dress.

We did our tasting and booked our cake about 9 months out. I did as much as I could way ahead of time and it has paid off because now at 30 days out I have very few items on my to do list and am not feeling stressed.

@ Trisha Y - That's what I am thinking too! I have all my vendors books, and a lot of other BIG things done! This is the last vendor to book!

I am doing cupcakes, I am about to book them now, just need a new copy of the contract since i wrote all over it trying to figure out how many dozens to get of what flavors lol!

I am planning an out of town wedding about 1.5 hrs away from where we live. We did a tasting with them last month when we were up there on vacation Smiley smile

We booked eleven months in advance. Reasons for that include being a June bride and the baker we used usually books up a year in advance for the prime wedding months.

Ahh yes - FMC, I didn't even think about being a June Bride and the bakery getting booked up quick! Awesome, the only reason I need to knock it off my list! Smiley smile

    Thanks Ladies!

Yep - I second everyone! Especially since you know where you want to book. Just in case it ends up being too expensive, you don't want to wait too long to try to find someone else Smiley smile
