Wedding Cake - Need to Have or Nice to Have?

Need to have in the sense of you need a dessert! We're doing donuts, but also having a small cake for us to cut for pictures (and to appease my grandmother).

Nice to have, I’m making cupcakes instead. I can’t bring myself to spend hundreds of dollars on a wedding cake, especially since they’re usually gross anyway.

I am so shocked more people are saying nice to have vs need!!! Am I the only one who thinks it is not a wedding without a cake? I mean, not a cake specifically - it could be any type of dessert or food even, but something to signify it's a party. It's just tradition, but one that I'd like to keep alive.

A cake is a need to have! Without a doubt. Need need need! (The more the better for us!)

Need to have. It's a timeless classic. Can just be a sweetheart cake to cut or more elaborate. I look forward to seeing what couples have for their cake.

Need to have. It doesn't have to be fancy or over the top. Our wedding cake will be $140 for 50 people. Our cake lady always makes our cake for special events and people love the taste of it. It will be all white and i will just add a few flowers. I think most people expect cake at a wedding.

So we are going to do mostly a fake cake. The bottom and middle layers will look real on the outside but will be styrofoam on the inside. The top layer will be real and we can cut into that. Then we plan to have cupcakes of different flavors for everyone and a s’mores bar

Need to for us. We both wanted a tiered cake because neither of us had one for our first weddings.

In most weddings I’ve been to the cake has gone to wast anyways 😞 it’s nice to have but you’re there to celebrate love and togetherness not cake! No offense to anyone the need to HAVE and cake, do you everyone is different!

My fiance and I love cake so it's a must. I'm making a 3 tier cake in fall flavors that's decorated in buttercream, plus cupcakes for those who like white or chocolate cake.
