Wedding cake 1 year later!

CrystalQueenB, on February 9, 2016 at 10:22 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 68

Ok ladies has anyone saved their wedding cake for their first anniversary, or are planning to? My mother has, and she said that cake was still pretty good, but on the other side I've had people tell me horror stories about how awful the cake tasted. I'm just wondering if people still do this, and if any of you ladies want to share your experiences?

Gross. Soggy. the filling and icing flavors got absorbed into the cake. Threw it out for the birds to eat. they probably hate us.

We are going to save 1 slice of our top tier. I don't want to give up any more real estate in my freezer!

It would really depend on the frosting and type of cake.

A dense pound cake would freeze better than a sponge cake.

Nope! Getting a mini version of our cake for our one year anniversary. Although taking some with us for breakfast the day after our wedding.

We're not doing this. I've heard terrible things about the cake a year later.

Ours is still in the freezer wrapped like the above. I doubt it will taste good but we will be opening it in June since we can't move with it. That's only like 2 months early though so close enough.

Nope. Our bakery has a thing where they remake the top layer of your cake for your one year anniversary.

I did with ex. The cake tasted a little freezerburnt, but all the icing fell off as it thawed. :/

I've heard both and good and bad stories about doing this, so we just went ahead and tried it and we'll see what happens next year. I took the wrapping advice from a friend that said hers still tasted great. We let it chill in the fridge for 24 hours so the icing would set (we didn't have fondant), then wrapped it tightly first with several layers of wax paper, then several layers of plastic wrap and finally several layers of foil. We then put that in an air-tight container and stuck it all in the fridge. It takes up ALOT of space, lol. I'm hoping it works and I'm already anxious to try it. If it tastes like crap in a year, we'll probably see about ordering a small topper sized cake from the same bakery because our cake was just so good.

We're doing cake balls rather than an actual cake, so we're planning on going back to our bakery and just getting a box of new cake balls decorated the same way as our wedding ones for our anniversary. That way we still kind of preserve the tradition while still eating cake that actually tastes good!

We were told to do it on our one month anniversary & it would still be good. We haven't decided what we want to do.

We won't. We are having each of the three tiers as a different flavor of cake and want to serve all three. I think ordering a small one year anniversary cake is a good idea.

We didn't want our top tier saved, but the venue messed up and it got saved. So it's sitting in our freezer, just turning into sawdust Smiley winking

My planner gave me directions to surround the cake with mini marshmallows to prevent freezer burn and keep it fresher and then something with plastic wrap. I don't know. I had my mom do it while we were on our HM and it's in her extra freezer. I don't like cake that much to begin with, so I don't have high hopes for enjoying it on our anniversary anyway.

It was freezer-burnt and tasted like spinach/whatever else was in the freezer. I wish we had taken it on our HM with us instead.

My bakery remakes the top tier of your cake for your anniversary so you don't have to freeze it
