Ok ladies has anyone saved their wedding cake for their first anniversary, or are planning to? My mother has, and she said that cake was still pretty good, but on the other side I've had people tell me horror stories about how awful the cake tasted. I'm just wondering if people still do this, and if any of you ladies want to share your experiences?

Probably not doing this, but our venue is letting us take leftover alcohol that we paid for and wasn't opened. We might save a bottle of wine for our one year instead

We saved it wrapped in foil, then in a tupperware, then in foil again. I had it last week. It wasn't too bad. The one we got for our anniversary tier was 10000% better, but it was important to H to have the tradition.

Heather I love that idea!!! We're supplying the alcohol, so we can just buy an extra bottle and stash it.

@Heather that's a brilliant idea! I don't really drink, but I'll rather have a glass of wine then some stale ass cake lol

I read that the tradition stems from the expectation that the top tier would be eaten at the christening of the couple's first child, which is supposed to be within that first year. So once I learned the back story on the tradition I was no longer interested in keeping cake for a year.

We are keeping the top tier to eat the next day and after we get back from our honeymoon. We will buy a fresh cake for our anniversary!

FH's grandma recently passed away and while cleaning out her house we found her wedding cake in the freezer. From 1952. Blech.

So we had a DW and told our baker we were gonna serve the top tier BUT they were awesome and made us another small one just for us. It's at my grandfather's house in the freezer, we'll be there in August so we're gonna eat it then!

I'm glad I don't have to that! My baker will give us a complimentary cake on our 1 year anniversary.

Yeah, no. When we celebrate our first anniversary, if we want the same cake, we'll order a little one from the same baker. Not a fan of eating year-old cake, or like some elderly couple in the news who recently ate a piece of their 60+ year old cake. Ack! I'm choking! So gross!

We aren't saving it. 1. My freezer isn't big enough! 2. Two different friends saved their cakes and said it turned out nasty after a year. 3. Our bakery is offering us a free 1 year anniversary cake.

We did, and it was awesome, and we got an anniversary cake, too. Which was also awesome. We cut it into individual slices, wrapped it in plastic, then put a few pieces into ziplock bags and froze it.

We'll save it! if it doesn't turn out good, we'll go get another one. maybe we'll have it for brunch on the morning of our anniversary(while watching football haha), that way we can always go get a small cake later. i'm all about tradition though!

Not at all! We hardly do leftovers so don't think we will even want to touch it after a year!
