Ok ladies has anyone saved their wedding cake for their first anniversary, or are planning to? My mother has, and she said that cake was still pretty good, but on the other side I've had people tell me horror stories about how awful the cake tasted. I'm just wondering if people still do this, and if...

I'm just wondering if people still do this, and if any of you ladies want to share your experiences?

Don't have an option to do this since it's a DW, but I wouldn't anyway. Sounds nasty!

I don't think we are going to do this. We may just order a small cake from the bakery for our anniversary. We will, however, most likely eat cake for breakfast the morning after the wedding lol.

@Beachbride that sounds about right! Lol

@Becoming a Mrs that's a good idea, except I'm having a DW. The resort has offered to wrap the cake up for our trip back home.

The idea of eating year old stale cake is pretty gross, but I think the tradition behind it, is really sweet and romantic!

    Thanks ladies!

I ate cake that had been frozen once. I love cake too much to do that again. It was gross and it hadn't even been a whole year.

Ours is in the freezer wrapped up tight. I added a few extra layers of each, because you know... Why not?

I'm not crazy about the thought of eating year old cake, but the tradition is sweet. So, we're giving it a shot. Even if it's only a bite or two.

I plan on freezing mine. I got mine from the same baker that my sister used and she had a great experience! According to her, it tasted just fine. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I will have the same experience

We're most likely not saving ours and this is the reason. It's one of the great family stories that comes up from time to time. When my mom and dad got married in 1972, they saved theirs in my grandmom's freezer. For their first anniversary, my two grandmothers traveled several hours by public transportation to get from Philly to Penn State, just to bring them their cake... and when they cut into it, they found it was moldy.

Didn't think about it, but yeah I don't think I'll be freezing the cake. We will probably just order an anniversary cake at that time.

Our bakery is giving us a small cake on our 1 year anniversary. 1 year old frozen cake sounds really gross.

Im debating if we will or not. i kinda want to eat it during the following week at the beach, cuz im a piggy.. we go to the outer banks every year, so it would be easy to just get it remade by the same baker.

We did. But ours was a traditional British fruit cake (which tastes nothing like the Godawful American fruitcake). It's the cake that was originally intended for eating a year later, and keeps a lot better than a regular sponge cake.

We get a cake from our baker on our anniversary, so we won't save it. Maybe a piece, but not the whole thing.

It depends on how you freeze it and also the type of cake. We froze ours because honestly even if it doesn't turn out well I still wanted to do it just for fun. DH and I already agreed that for every anniversary we will go back to the same bakery to get cake to celebrate.
