Venue with no parking/ pay to park....

dionna , on January 13, 2011 at 5:00 PM Posted in Planning 0 25

Hey ladies, I am checking out different venues and one that I like (based on what I've seen online) they dont have a parking lot for guests, there are several lots in the area. Is this considered rude to invite people to your wedding/ reception and they have to pay to park?

Same deal here. Parking at our hotel venue is $18.00 valet, $12.00 self parking, PER DAY! I feel bad but then as FH says, ITS MIAMI, by the beach, people here have to pay for parking everywhere they go so according to him, I'm exagerating worrying about it. He says to most of the weddings he went he paid parking and he had no problem with it. Besides, we are feeding them and providing them a good time, dancing and eating so...

Depending on the venue, I'd be ok with it. If it was an upscale place with valet. Just IMO

I'd be fine with it now, but when I was younger, $12 would be annoying, and i wouldn't have the cash on me. As long as they can pay with a card, I'm sure it'll be fine. But I would mention it in the directions.

I would definitely let them know, maybe on the website. I never carry cash, so I would need to know in advance.

Ask them how brides in the past have handled it.

I would definitely let them know ahead of time. Everyone is mentioning that they are getting a free meal and a good time but dont forget they are most likely bringing a gift too so you wouldn't want to tax them too hard. Perhaps you could pay a flat fee towards the valet and minimize the cost the guests will have to pay the day of??

Our venue has $18 for valet as well and we are going to try to negotiate a discounted rate or just cover the cost.

@Jamila I was thinking about that as well... it's still a little bit early at this point, but I am thinking that if we do in fact go with this venue then I would negotiate a deal with the parking.

now on to the wording of how you say, here's the location and how to get there oh... did we mention u need to have $X-amount with you lol

One wedding I attended as a guest, I wasn't aware of the parking fee. I didn't have cash, and they didn't take a card. My aunt had to bale me out.

Like Sharon, I rarely carry cash. If I do have cash when I attend a wedding, it is usually $20 worth of ones for bartender tipping(a major bitch of mine, but that is another topic). Negotiating a deal would be a good idea. To some people, they have been to your engagement party and bridal shower(2 gifts). THey have bought a new outfit and many probably paid for a babysitter. THen, they are following ettiquette guidelines and giving you cash to cover the cost per plate, and then some. Smiley smile The cost of attending the wedding is getting higher and higher with each thing added. I am just playing devil's advocate here.

Just an aside from the local Smiley winking

Any weddings I go to in SF proper, I fully expect to pay for parking. There is NO free parking in the city! UGH!

If it were me, I would mention the address or name of the cheapest lot you can find in the area, and their pricing. Perhaps add it to the reception card, and difinately on your website.

Does the venue offer any sort of option where you can pay for parking for your guests?

I would definitley note somewhere that guests have to pay for parking, the amount, directions to lots, etc.

@Analy you feel my pain. I am thinking of an outside of SF wedding, looking at Berkeley but that is similar to the City situation with parking! GRRRR!!

Hoping that I can either get a good deal for the guests as I dont know if I can afford to foot the bill for everyone on the strength we are inviting 150! YIKES!

Fortunately 150 really translates to only 60 cars. Smiley smile

Some suggestions would be great. There is a Unitarian Universalist church in Berkeley we plan to look at and then MLK Student Union (Cal) but Ive NEVER seen these places and I'm kinda stuck! HELP ANALY!

Well, of course my obvious first suggestion would be The Claremont (it's not as expensive as you think!) as far as Berkeley. I know my company reovated that student union a few years ago...but IDK about weddings there. Cal is gorgeous in general though. You would have amazing photos! The archway...omg gurl.

Have you looked at St. Mary's College? It's in orinda, only like 10 mins farther than berkeley. CRAZY pretty! The Chabot Space Center (top of a hill) is also really cool and unique. This will help you!
