Venue Regret?

Serina, on November 14, 2012 at 2:38 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

So I ended up going with my second choice for venues due to cost reasons and now I'm starting to feel regret =( After I put down my deposit I found out that my first choice venue had a separate banquet menu that was much cheaper than their wedding package menu which had a lot of extras that I didn't need. But by that time I had already put down a deposit and booked other vendors and didn't think I could change the date. Now I'm thinking if my first choice venue still has my date open, should I forgo my $2500 deposit? It's possible I could use that deposit towards another event like a Company Xmas party and get my money back. Has anyone else had venue regret? What did you do about it? For all other brides that havent booked their venue yet my advice is to not compromise on the venue...it really does set the tone for the whole wedding. I wish I had tried to negotiate more or made more effort to try and make my first choice venue fit into my budget before giving up.

Would it be possible to visit the venue you booked again? After we sent in the deposit for our venue, I was nervous about some of the aspects, mostly because I forgot what some parts looked like. After we looked at the venue a second time, my mind was put to ease. It also helps that it was set up for a wedding the second time.

Oh so sorry this happened to you! If you aren't in love with the venue and you can get your money back I would do that!

Many brides have buyer's remorse about some part of their wedding. But unless you're absolutely positive you can use this venue for some other purpose, I wouldn't forgo $2,500 deposit. It's not a small chunk of change.

    How different are they really?

What is it that you don't like about the second-choice venue?

Wow this isn't good. How much more did you originally think your first choice would cost you? Was it more than the $2500 you're conisdering losing out on? I think I would just suck it up and stick with choice number 2. I would hate to be out of $2500 that I could do so much more with instead of just lose it. I don't know what percentage of your budget that is but if its significant, then I would stick with my original decision.

I think my main thing is the ceremony site. My first choice venue just looks prettier. It's on a grassy lawn with a view while my second choice is in a cramped garden with a building in the backdrop. Also the ballroom is newer and prettier for my first choice venue. The first picture is my first choice venue and second picture is my second choice. I feel like I keep having second thoughts about all my big decisions...first the dress now the venue *sigh*

Yeah if I can't get my money back which I probably wouldn't, I should just accept it and move on. I really can't afford to just lose $2500. And the second choice venue is not necessarily bad just that I fell in love with first choice and am disappointed that I settled.

Gee, I dunno, I sort of prefer the second one. Yeah, the view's better in the first, but I like the "urban oasis" feel of the second one Smiley smile

If you booked the second choice due to budget, I would say foregoing the $2500 just to have your first choice defeats the whole purpose of sticking to the budget in the first place! And remember, that's just the deposit. Will a company, unless it's your own, really allow you to spend that, and will your accountant allow you to use that as a write off (assuming that perhaps it is your company). Sounds like a lot of money to pass up on!

I also like the second one! I also had a building in the background, and it just gave it a little more of an urban, modern feel. Also, don't forget decor makes a difference too.

Second-guessing is pretty common, but it's really exhausting. Try to make a decision and move on. Your life will be much simpler. And trust me, at the end of the day your wedding experience will not be different because you have/don't have a building in the background.

I think your venue is gorgeous -- with the palm trees and the urban setting, it definitely has the "urban oasis" feeling that Leanna mentioned.
