Using Address Labels on STD Postcards?

BethBlue1115, on October 9, 2012 at 5:57 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 15

Our Save-the-dates are going to be postcards. We are not putting them in envelopes. Is it poor etiquette to use clear address labels to address them? We can't exactly run them through a printer to print the addresses directly on and it seems like a hassle to get a calligrapher for them (we'll be using one for the invitations).

Edit: And if so, any suggestions on fonts to use?

Since a postcard is already really informal, an address label isn't going to be a huge deal. Handwritten names and addresses (calligraphy not needed) would still be the top choice for me though.

We used address labels for our postcard STD's Smiley smile I don't think it's a really big deal.. our wedding is not particularly "formal" though, so I'm not very uptight of some of the etiquette.. nor am I opposed to it, if that makes sense!

We used Champagne & Limousines for our more plain font on our STD's and invites.. our fancier/scriptier font is Lavenderia..

I would say using clear address labels would be OK.

I used clear address labels for my STDs and they were magnets that we mailed in envelopes. My wedding is very informal as well so I may even use clear labels for my actual invites but with a fancy font

Our wedding is actually pretty formal, so maybe I need to rethink using a more casual save-the-date? If I stick with the postcard, glad to hear others have gone the same route. Unfortunately I do not have time to address them all myself. FH is going to have to send them out since I'll be gone for work, and his handwriting leaves something to be desired!

I wouldn't worry about your save the dates being informal. Your invites will dictate the formality of your wedding, not your save the dates so that's okay.

I have postcards but mu mother is making me put them In Envelopes. We are having a very formal wedding. She doesn't want a stranger showing up....like that is going to happen. Obviously a battle I lost.

I agree with Mrs. O. Your Save the Dates don't have to match. I did clear labels on my STDs and they looked great.

We did ours with typed address labels and a stamp that has our return address on it. The way I see it, if someone is going to offended that I used address labels, let them be. It doesn't make a bit of difference to me.

I used clear labels with a nice font for my postcard STD's. In today's techie world, and as busy as most of us are, I believe it's okay to use the resources we have available to save time!

I think it's fine to use clear address labels on the Save the Dates. As a guest, it wouldn't phase me at all. For the actual invitations, I think handwritten addresses are always the way to go. But the STDs can be much more informal.

We had cute, quirky STDs, but very formal letterpress invites. I think our invites clearly communicated the level of formality to our guests. At least, they all showed up looking pretty darn spiffy.

I dont consider our Save The Dates as very formal.....but our wedding is formal. I agree with the ladies above, with Save The Dates it doesnt really matter, its your invites that sets the overall tone for your wedding, so you most certainly can go formal or all out for those.

Thanks everyone! Having absolutely zero free time these next few months, I think I'll just stick with the clear labels and postcards!
