Useful Wedding Favors

Lee, on October 9, 2017 at 6:30 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 55

A lot of the wedding favors I have seen are kinda pointless and the ones I've gotten from attending weddings usually end up in a pile or the trash. Any body have ideas of USEFUL but cute wedding favors?

A lot of people nowadays are going without favors because of the reasons you described. But, as a guest, I always love getting edible favors! snacks, candy, jams/jellies/nut butters, etc.

We were going to go without, but are maybe doing some personalized mints to place at the table.

The edible ones haven't been that great, either. I ended up throwing out the little bottles of wine, oil, etc., that we've gotten through the years.

We're doing something edible that they don't have to take with them! Alternating our tables with cake pops that say "thanks for popping by" and mints with the "mint to be." I know it's overdone, but it was too cute to resist

My friend did a "donation in your name" to a pet charity and made homemade dog treats. This was one of my favorites. I took all the leftovers to my doggy. I just went to a wedding that had Frango mints which is a Chicago specialty (and also my favorite candy) that was super nice.

There's no such thing as a useful favor. No one really wants a souvenir from your wedding. Skip it.

We donated to Dana Farber/Jimmy Fund and got these in return! My father just passed last December of cancer and we wanted to do something more intimate in his name.. we will have a little bag with Hershey kisses with each one!

Brianna, I'm really sorry for your loss. I have to tell you, though, many people don't consider that a favor. That was really something for you, not for your guests and many don't like donations in their name being made to charities (even reputable ones) they don't get a say in. Your family will likely be incredibly touched considering this was in response to a death of someone very important to you all, but in general, for most people, this is not a good favor (for instance, if someone gave to the Salvation Army in my name, I would absolutely not be happy).

I'm doing honey as well. We have bees so am bottling up our own honey as favors.

If you don't have something that immediately springs out at you as a favor that is personal to you, then I wouldn't do one. Most get thrown away unless they are edible... and even then will sometimes get thrown away.

I'm giving wildflower seed packets. ETSY has lots of options for personalized envelopes with seeds. :-)

Anything edible. We are doing Hershey kisses. And also considering our photo booth as a favor too!

Why is a donation not a "favor"? I think it's more of a favor than the tschokas I get and immediately throw out. Something like Dana Farber, where everyone has been touched by cancer in some way, is thoughtful. I really cannot imagine anyone saying "nevermind the charity, I wish I'd gotten skittles instead"

    - so says the gal who is listing 3 charities (one of them to the rescue where I got my dog)

"Why is a donation not a "favor"?"

Because donating to a charity is a personal thing and not something that someone should do for others. We all have our pet causes and we all have organizations that we believe in and those that we don't. As I said, if someone donated to the Salvation Army in my name, I'd be annoyed, not grateful. A favor is something you do for your guests as a thank you. Donating to a charity in their name is not a thank you. You're doing it for you, unless you know which charity THEY would want to donate to.
