Universal Orlando/Disney World Honeymoon ETA: Florida

SarahAnn1015, on June 16, 2016 at 3:34 PM Posted in Planning 0 64

FH and I finally landed on something fun for the both of us for the honeymoon! We've been tossing back and forth so many ideas and we agreed Universal Studios (really just for the Wizarding World of Harry Potter! Yes!) and Disney--I've never been and they're adding more and more star wars stuff all the time which is exciting for both of us!

What I wondered though is if you think 1 day for both Universal parks is enough? Or should we do 2 at each Universal and Disney respectively? Our Honeymoon is only going to be 5 days max. Ideally 4 though. We're going in October which is an off season so that'll help.

Can anyone help with a timeline?

Um no, two days for disney is not even close to enough. It takes us a day for each park and we have been there about 50 plus times.

It is doable but it will not be enjoyable.

Well Universal is made up of Universal and Islands of Adventure. Personally if you've never been there, I'd want two days and spend one at each park. You can get a pass that gives you access to both in one day but thats a lot to put in.

Same with Disney. I say it takes about 1 day per park you want to see. If you are fine with just magic kingdom, 1 day is fine. If you want to do Epcot, Typhoon Lagoon, Blizzard Beach, or Animal Kingdom, I would add an extra day for each park you want to do.

If you try to cram it, it will not be fun. You will miss stuff, be trying to stay on a schedule, taking trams back and forth and rushing around.

Dump Universal and spend the whole time at Disney.

I'm pretty biased though Smiley smile

I would go to Disney the majority of the time. FH and I have been to Disney 3 times in the last 3 years and we didn't even get through everything and we spend 5 and 6 days there each time. You can do Universal in a day or two. No matter what time of year you go Disney will be busy maybe not as bad as peak season but you will still have to wait in lines and it is hot! Disney is a great honeymoon though! Make sure you go to guest relations to in one of the parks so you can get a "Just Married" button! Smiley smile

You will want at least one day for each Disney park. So that's four days. Either that, or you'll have to choose which parks to go to and which to skip because each Disney park is a full day. I personally love Animal Kingdom (I love animals!) and Epcot Center myself. Hollywood Studios is more adventurous and fun for movie lovers and Magic Kingdom is honestly full of magic. I can't speak to Universal though. Never been.

NowaSeptMrs, you forgot Hollywood Studios and disney springs. Since the OP stated Star wars I assume Hollywood studios is the top of the list for parks at Disney.

Op, currently there is only one Star wars attraction and none in production because of the production of Avatarland. If you went in May that would be a different story. You could spend 3 days at disney, if you just want to do the four main parks. One for MK, one for epcot, and one for AK and Hollywood studios. Most of the things in HS have been closed permanently for other things (that won't start production until 2017). And then I would add a day for a water park and disney springs.

Christina, she most likely won't have to wait in lines during October for most of the rides, since it is the least crowded time to attend. When we go, we rarely wait in lines and often ask if we can stay on rides because there is no one in line.

Depends on if you plan on doing all the Disney parks. Like I am not a fan of animal kingdom. It only has 2-3 rides and is finished in a few hours.

You could do 2 days at universal with a day at each park. Then do Epcot and magic kingdom for 2 days.

You can get Minnie and Mickey ears that are bride and groom and if you inform the park you're their for your honeymoon. They give you each a button to wear saying honeymoon. You can get one for it being your first visit as well.

I think Universal can be done in 2 days, 1 if you rush and don't bother with all the rides. I did one day for Harry Potter and one for everything else. If you're just going for Harry Potter, 1 day will be fine. You'll still have to get the park hopper pass if you want to see both parts and ride the Hogwarts Express (which, let's be honest, who doesn't?!). Disney however will take more than 2 days if you want to hit each park. It helps if you decide what you want to focus on if you are limiting it to 2 days there. Do you want to ride the best rides? See a certain park feature? Experience amazing food? There are online guides that can help you narrow it down.

OK well we only have enough funding for a maximum of 5 days total in Florida. There's no way we could do more.

Neither of us have any interest in typhoon lagoon or blizzard beach.

I was definitely thinking 2 for universal to hit both of those parks for sure.

If you could only pick 1 disney park to visit which would it be, and why?

Our main interests are magic kingdom, animal kingdom, and hollywood studios.

You don't want to be at the parks the entire time you'll be way to worn out. I say do one day at Universal and 2-3 days max at Disney. Give yourself at least 1 day to just spend with your FH relaxing. If you can get more time I would suggest do a week trip there so you can visit all the parks and have time to relax.

Universal is an absolute blast. Park to park passes are the way to go. The Mummy is a hugely underrated ride that is fantastic. One of my favorites. The Rock It is over rated IMO. It does nothing but give me a massive headache, and the line is ridiculous. All the HP rides are great. Get butterbeer.

If you have never been, you need to do a lot of research.

Make your FastPasses in the morning, so you can make more when you use them up.... park touring plans for avoiding lines... Disney is not a relaxing vacay lol

undercovertourist is good for both parks and to see when you should visit what park on what day according to historic crowd levels and chipandco is a fantastic website for disney.

ETA: I would do MK out of the ones you listed, as it is quintessential Disney, but you should also consider Epcot. One of a kind food, drinks, merchandise, fantastic rides. The countries are true to their places as disney flew in top architects from that country to build the pavilions and you have to be from that country to work at that park...

@Summer originally it was just going to be Universal simply for tWWoHP. Cutting Universal is not an option.

If it's your first time at Disney and you can truly only go for one day, then I think you have to do Magic Kingdom. It's classic. Me personally though, I'd choose Epcot all day, every day.

A day won't be enough, especially if it's your first time there. You'll want at least a day for each park. Wizarding World of HP makes it so worth it. Also, I love the Hulk ride at Islands of Adventure.

Btw, it's still going to be packed in October. There's not really an off-season.

FH and I are also going to universal and Disney. We are planning to go to EPCOT, magic kingdom, and animal kingdom so that's 3 days there. We are also spending 2 days at universal.

Lots of good advice so far! Thank you! Smiley smile

@Katie we definitely want a day to relax too! FH is just not one to sit still and we love amusement parks (being from Ohio we get Kings Island and Cedar Point, they're just not the same scale) But that's mainly why i ask which parks would you do if you we limited.

@OriginalLaura thanks! I don't know that I even knew what epcot was specifically as sad as that is to admit.

5 days is doable fund wise if we do 2 days at parks and 1 to relax. We will also have the weekend after we get home to spend with one another.

Maybe go to Hollywood Studios. I just love all the movie stuff, and you did mention the Star Wars stuff. Magic Kingdom is incredibly fun. I think the question is really, what do you LIKE most.

Personally I'd pick animal kingdom over all the others but that's because I absolutely love animals, and also have this sense of adventure. I love the safari and the walking tour and there are some good rides there.

If what you love about Disney is the magic, then Magic Kingdom. There will not be another park as immersive as that one for "magic".
