Trying to pick between 2 San Diego Venues

Krista, on August 19, 2019 at 12:25 AM Posted in California Planning 0 6

Hey there!

I am having the most difficult time picking my wedding venue. I am torn between two venues both in San Diego. Option One is Britt Scripps Manor which is an old victorian house in downtown San Diego with gardens outside. The pros of this place is that it is close to the airport as 50-60% of our guests are from out of town. This place also includes accommodation for 14 -20 guests, with other really nice hotels only five minutes away. You get the whole property from Friday morning to Sunday afternoon. The food is gourmet and everything is included in the price except from flowers, photographer, and dessert. The ceremony would be under a large beautiful tree and dinner would be outside. A problem for me is the ceremony site would have to be flipped during cocktail hour to be created into a dance area. The dance area is one of the most important things to me as I am a dance and all of my guests are dancing partiers as well.

Second option is Green Gables Estate in San Marcos, which is about 40 minutes from the airport. This venue is all inclusive and beautiful. It has the more fairy garden vibe I had originally planned. I can only have my wedding on a Friday here which isn't a game change but not as ideal as on a Saturday. The food is farm to table and it is BYO which is nice. The area is perfect for a smooth and nice wedding flow. The dance is area is perfect as well. The only thing that I don't like is that the event has to be over by 10pm. There is a nice hotel on a lake ten minutes away or guests could stay beachside which is 20 minutes away. So while this one is more of the vibe i wanted it does make it more difficult for guests to get to.

Any thoughts that would help me choose???? Thanks in advance.

    Hey there Krista Smiley smile

    Welcome to the WeddingWire community!

They are both gorgeous venues with many pros so I can totally see why you’re struggling.

Perhaps you could take a moment to check out the venue’s previous couple reviews and real weddings on their WeddingWire storefronts. This may help you get more insights and make the decision! I’ve linked them both below for you Smiley smile

    Green Gables Estate

    Britt Scripps Manor

Does your FS have a preference between the two venues at the moment?

I would definitely get the Manor! it's Gorgeous Smiley smile If it ends early you can go to gaslamp! I'm getting married at Marina Village and it's ending a bit early since they don't allow event's past 11:30pm. We are thinking of either going to downtown or PB.

#1 for sure! The convenience for guests (traffic in SD can be terrible!), the food, the venue. Don’t worry about the flipping; they’ll handle it fine and everyone will be busy mingling during cocktail hour.

Hey Smiley smile Thanks for the help. I have read the reviews but they just get me more confused because people have different tastes and differing opinions about what is important. Thank you for the links though. My FS just wants me to pick whatever makes me happy. His only two requests are no hotel venues and plated dinner. Haha.

Do you know when Octoberfest will be next year? You may want to take that into consideration. It may be a great weekend for your guests to have additional party options close by for the weekend. Or it may be too expensive or overcrowded for hotels. Just a thought.
And if you do San Marcos, you can let your guests know they can take the fast lane- as long as they have a passenger there’s no charge. I don’t think the commute is so bad but that’s just me.

Green Gables! I booked it and fell in love with it the moment I first saw it. I will be traveling 1 hour and 30 minutes. Other guests as well 😊
