Too much dress for the beach? *PICS*

Rachael, on January 6, 2011 at 2:07 PM Posted in Planning 0 62

Hey ladies, so I'm relatively new to the whole posting thing but here goes. My FH and I are getting married June 17th on the beach in Lake Tahoe and now that I've graduated and am done with school for a while I have time to finish planning the wedding which means I've had a lot of time to think about the details and start second guessing myself...

Having said that I'd like to get your guys' opinions on the dress, I almost feel now that it's too much for a wedding on the beach. This may be the stress talking, but I'd love to get some feedback (too big etc.)

Honestly, I think it's too much bottom for a beach wedding. Also, with the train- do you really want to be dragging that through the sand?

As pretty as that dress is- I think it's too much for the beach. But it all depends on the actual ceremony set up. If it's in the sand itself- no. If it overlooks the beach on concrete, or in a gazebo- sure!

I think it's fine! A friend of mine just got married in Tahoe on the beach, and she actually wore a very similar style. If it was some huge satin ballgown with a 30 foot train, I think you would be a bit out of place, but this looks fine to me!

You generally see light flowy dresses for beach weddings, but I've also seen more traditional wedding dresses like yours also. The only thing I'd be concerned about is the train. I'd probably have the train removed or bustled the entire time so it wont drag in the sand

The dress is gorgeous, and really flatters you. I think it will *look* just fine on the beach but it may be annoying for you to manage and obviously the train will get dirty, but if you've already paid for it don't worry! It will work out. Perhaps you can put out some type of "flooring" on the sand like bamboo mats or stepping stones to keep the dress dragging to a minimum.

I googled beach wedding and looked at pics. Here are 3 pics of ladies with full traditional wedding dresses (trains and all) that I think look great!

I had a beach wedding and my dress was heavy raw silk with a train - not very beachy Smiley smile We had an aisle that was coconut matting covered with the runner (i wore heels too, so i didn't want to sink in the sand hence the runner). Honestly we weren't on the beach for very long, ceremony and photos. The train wasn't bustled until the first dance and it didn't get any sand on it nor did it get dirty.

Love it! it's fine for the beach, maybe you could have some sort of runner down for the train, or have it bustled like was suggested above! It's your day, the dress looks amazing on you, I'd say go for it!! :-)

I'm doing a beach wedding and I do have some train. As I'm going to trash the dress afterwards I'm not too worried about it not staying prestine. I think it's really up to what you want to afterwards and what you like.

I tried to find a pic that shows how long the back is but you can see that it is floor length from the pic I put up.

Thanks for all the feed back it makes me feel a little better seeing other pictures and hearing that other brides had bigger dresses too Smiley smile yeah I won't actually be walking in the sand as we will have an aisle runner, and the reception will be under a tent just off the beach.

I tried on the lighter more flow-y dresses and as nice as they were, they were a bit mature looking on me. As much as I'd love a ball gown I figured this was a good compromise.

Analy where in Tahoe were your friends married?

I think the dress looks great on you! I agree on the bustle it might be a good way to go. My BFF once gave an advice that I love and it goes for all occasions. If you feel good in it, then you will look good. Doesn't matter if you are in jeans at an opera! Rock that dress girl!

I would definitely do the mat under the runner, I never sank into the sand once and I wore 4 inch heels. Yep, everyone said i was nuts for a beach wedding..lol

I officiated about 100 beach weddings last year. I always suggest to the bride that she not have a train dragging thru the sand getting ruined (plus it gets very heavy with the sand, sandspurs, twigs, and grass sticking to it).

Short dresses look really cute on the beach and I've even had 4 white bikini brides!

LutaWolf, your dress is beautiful! And yeah I think there will be a trash the dress session some time after so I don't think I should be too worried about the sand Smiley smile

It sounds like it was the same place as you guys; on the beach with the reception in a tent just off the beach. I think the address was Zephyr cove, but I'm not sure if that was the name of the place.
