Tipping to assigned Day of Coordinator

MJ, on March 24, 2017 at 11:32 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 48

Good morning everyone,

I know there is a lot of discussion here about tipping. My venue includes just that - the venue, tables, chairs, and a day of coordinator. My venue was about $6K to rent and they assigned me a coordinator. The coordinator has already reached out to me regarding my wedding next month and we will have one meeting in 2 weeks to go over how everything is suppose to look like. I am able to drop anything off the night before wedding or day of and she will set-up as we discussed.

She gave me a planning guide printout that I thought was very helpful. One of the pages includes recommended tipping % for each type of vendor. For coordinator it says 10-15%. Is it expected of me to tip 10-15% of how much I paid to rent the venue? Because that's $6-900. That seems pretty high to me.

What would be a good amount?

I have never heard of tipping a coordinator. For what we paid her, she should have tipped us.

God Nancy, please stop. I'd call the venue and ask if there is a typical amount. Percentages very often don't work except for MUA's and hair....

I'd say 150-200 would be fine; if you know her well enough to figure out a personal gift (massage gift card, bottle or two of wine) that would work too.

Thank you all. I had originally budgeted $200 until I saw the sheet.

Good question Catlady5x! I was wondering the same thing. Like do I hand it to them at the end of the night in an envelope or something?

$100-$200 sounds pretty generous to me.

@Mrs.FallBride: Why do you think you are always right? We paid a day of lady$ 1800.00 for one flippin' days work. She needed another 20%?

@Celia:AAAHHHHHH No I won't stop. See the above post. We paid her 1800 bux for ONE ( that's the number wedged between 0 and 2) day of work. She didn't need another 20%. If I were a coordinator, I'd do the job for half as much. I am however getting inspired. I am going to leave a TIP jar outside my classroom.

@Nancy, if you felt that the amount of work did not justify the $1,800 price tag you could have chosen to hire someone else for less or even no one at all. But it's shitty to stiff people on their tips.

Agreed. Who was the one that hired that expensive of a DOC Nancy? No ones fault, but your own.

1800.00 was the cheapest we could find. The hotel required it. Seriously, I have never heard of anyone tipping a wedding coordinator. I would not heed GreeneBunny's advice.

@JRae Not my fault dear. See the above post. The next one up was $2200.

Ours was provided but we paid extra to upgrade. Our price was 1k so 10-15% isn't bad. If I feel she goes above and beyond than she will get a higher tip.

@Mrs.FallBride: I guess we will have to agree to disagree. 1800 bucks for a of day work is ridiculous. Another 10 or 20%? Yikes.

Not everyone should be tipped. Only people that go above and beyond. I'm tired of these forums telling us to tip everyone without taking into account the quality of work/service they provide. I usually tip 20%, (sometimes more), but to tip someone to do the job you paid them for and they did the minimum, no.
