Tipping to assigned Day of Coordinator

Good morning everyone,

I know there is a lot of discussion here about tipping. My venue includes just that - the venue, tables, chairs, and a day of coordinator. My venue was about $6K to rent and they assigned me a coordinator. The coordinator has already reached out to me regarding my wedding next month and we will have one meeting in 2 weeks to go over how everything is suppose to look like. I am able to drop anything off the night before wedding or day of and she will set-up as we discussed.

She gave me a planning guide printout that I thought was very helpful. One of the pages includes recommended tipping % for each type of vendor. For coordinator it says 10-15%. Is it expected of me to tip 10-15% of how much I paid to rent the venue? Because that's $6-900. That seems pretty high to me.

What would be a good amount?

We booked with our venue. They supply a coordinator and right now they are having a special where we only have to pay for the catering and drinks.

Not sure how much to pay ours. When I asked her directly about gratuity she said that it is all in the final price.

You don't really think your coordinator walked in cold on that day, did her thing and left do you?

    I can't even.

Mother planned the whole wedding. Coordinator delivered the flowers, started the bridal party down the aisle and removed the table numbers. she suggested a baker and we talked to her once. Like I said, I would have done it for half as much. We were very pleasant.

Please everybody start leaving your kid's teacher a tip. And don't forget the busboy at the market, the dentist, your doctor, lawyer and don't forget the flight attendants. PS How about the florist and the mail carrier? This all needs to end. Go live in Europe. Nobody tips.

I wouldn't feel right if I didn't tip my DOC! she starts 45 days out with coordinating everything. She has been extremely helpful so far in this process. She has been a very valuable piece of planning a wedding and I will tip her accordingly.

I'm sorry @Nancy D I really didn't want to type anything towards you but your last comment compelled me to do so. " Please everybody start leaving your kid's teacher a tip. And don't forget the busboy at the market, the dentist, your doctor, lawyer and don't forget the flight attendants. PS How about the florist and the mail carrier? This all needs to end. Go live in Europe. Nobody tips." It is in good taste to leave a tip or gift to most of these people. Such as a teacher who parents usually gift items or gift cards around the holiday season or end of school year. I hate to assume but if you are indeed a teacher you yourself should have received something in this nature, if not I can't imagine why. Mail carriers also receive tips during the holidays especially if you have the same one. I do her name is Barbara. Did you know that even sanitation and landscapers also receive tips and I mean the cash kind. It seems you just may be ill informed on the matter so I would suggest doing a bit of research as you may benefit greatly from tipping service people around you.

Celia, so you tip your dentist, doctor lawyer, flight attendant? What about CPA, personal banker, teller?

We'll have a maitre'd the day of that gets a designated amount in cash, as per our contract. We also have a catering manager whom we've been working with, and I assume she will be handling some coordination the day of, so we plan to tip her around $200-$250.

I always take my dentists holiday gifts, as I do with my CPA. It's because of all of them that I have teeth.... I have sent my personal banker a thank you gift too. But see, I really like thanking people.

I fly frequently. Never saw anyone give a flight attendant a tip. Will ask my dentist, etc.

    I think this is absurd.
