Tipping the day of coordinator

FutureRice0821, on June 2, 2015 at 10:30 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

First, let me just say that I apologize in advance for the barrage of questions that will ensue over the next couple of months because I'm officially in freak out mode. I feel like we still have a million things to do and not a lot of time left! So I appreciate your responses in advance. But I digress...

For those of you that have had or are having a DOC, are you tipping them? I have read up on tipping etiquette, but when it comes to the DOC, I see it can go either way. Some say yes, some say no. I'm wondering what you ladies have/or will do. If you are tipping, are you doing a standard percentage? Or a flat rate based on your own research or experience with your DOC? I'm just trying to gauge how much tip money to set aside for the day and for whom.

That's a good question! I'm curious too, however our DOC comes with the venue and is only for the ceremony part even a percentage wouldn't help. We are not paying her separate.

Errrr idk, i feel like i should but she has staff that comes and helps her so i think that i should give her a few hundred as a tip. She only cost $1100 though so i dont want to give her 50% in tip

This is a great question and my mom and I have talked about this many times. So my mom says, if the DOC owns the company (like works for herself) then you do NOT tip. Because she makes all the money after expenses. Now if the DOC works for someone, like a large company, or even a small 3 person kinda place but isn't the owner, then you do tip. And I would do a flat fee. Depending on how much you're spending I would say $75-$100 would be good. Unless they are really cheap then maybe only $50. I'm really not sure.

I just know we have had this conversation and will not be tipping our DOC because she's a 1 woman show, and she will be our florist so she will be getting paid from us for two things.

My DOC has a blog, and she did a post on tipping. For the DOC, she notes that professionals will not EXPECT one, but if they gave exemplary service or went beyond your expectations, it is appreciated and appropriate.

Mine definitely has gone above and beyond. I was going to get her a nice bottle of wine and write a thank you letter.

We're tipping ours $75 each (there are two). Our package was $800.

My DOC gave me a tipping guide, and I don't have it with me to refer to, but of course they do recommend tipping them. I'm just not sure how much off the top of my head. Mine is a team of 3 people though so I'm not sure if I tip them individually or just the main person. Same with the photographer who has a second shooter. I'm lost too lol.

MY DOC owns her business so I do not plan to tip her...isn't paying her several hundred dollars enough.

I'm so curious about this. Our DOC comes with our venue package, I have heard so many different things about tipping the DOC, I'm just confused at this point! LOL!

It IS very confusing! I just don't want to end up looking like a schmuck! I'm so torn. Just to add to it, my DOC did NOT come with the venue and it's the owner and her husband. So, part of me says don't tip. Then I look at what she is actually doing for me and the fact that she's already taken over and we are still 2 months out from our date. That other part of me says tip, and tip her well. LOL

I was told the same thing as SB, if she gives exemplary service day of I will tip her. Otherwise I'm not planning on it, because she works for herself and is only there day of, she isn't 'month of.'

A Month of Coordinator who is hired by the Bride as her personal Coordinator, and not one that "comes with the venue", DOES get a tip. $100 is the usual. As these coordinators spend a huge amount of time helping to make your day seamless and stress free and are the Bride's advocate during the event, they should get a tip.
