Thoughts on cupcakes instead of traditional cake

I absolutely love the cupcake idea, I love the photos I have seen of them for weddings. My FH was positive he wanted the traditional cake but yesterday he said we could get cupcakes. I absolutely love the cupcake idea, I love the photos I have seen of them for weddings. My FH was positive he wanted the traditional cake but yesterday he said we could get cupcakes. I told him I wouldn't do that to him, if having the cake was important to him then so be it but he said no, the more he thinks about it, he said it would be easier and less messy(cutting and all that) Our venue has nothing todo with the foodnor cake. We aredoing allthe cooking ourselves and so we would be cutting the cake ourselves and serving it. I like the idea of just having the little topper cake for us to cut and feed to one another and then our guests can help themselves to a cupcake whenever they want Smiley smile Your thoughts on cupcakes versus traditional cake?

Traci - We did the cupcakes and they were a hit!

We actually went with only a 4" cake to cut, and we still had a bunch of cake left over. My sister wrapped it well and put it in our freezer, but we ate it when we came home from our honeymoon - I'm not one to let ANYTHING chocolate sitting around, and definitely not for a year! LOL But the cupcakes were a really fun addition. Go for it!

I loves me the cuppycakes. It's even a nickname from FH so we have to do them. Just make sure that the cupcakes with the frosting and decorations will fit on your tree. Also

www.save-on-crafts.com has the same trees as thecupcaketree.com for a bit cheaper.

Cupcakes are the latest trend in wedding cakes supposedly, so you're doing the "in thing" if you go that route. They were all over the place at the recent Wedding Salon bridal show in NYC I went to.

The trend seems to be either the tower of cupcakes and the topper cake...or...for a little more pizzaz, a beautiful imitation cake can be made of flowers and the topper cake put on top! That was striking! Then the cupcakes get served to the guests.

Also, I tried some red velvet cupcakes with lemon raspberry ganache...to die for!!! Not to mention they looked really elegant!

    Good luck!

We are doing the cupcake with an nicely decorated cake to cut as well. I love the idea and the savings. We are able to have 5 different flavors (cherry marble, orange, almond pound, chocolate and chocolate mint). We also asked the baker (who is also our caterer) to make labels so people would know which is which. Also keep in mind that is there are kids, they may take 2 or 3 cupcakes each! I will, of course, have to sample each flavor for quaility. Smiley smile

One of my best friends had cupcakes at her wedding with a small cake for them to cut/eat. Everyone served themselves and most people only took one. There was also a giant cookie instead of the traditional groom's cake. The whole thing went over well and it looked really nice. I say go for it!

I've DJ'd at quite a few weddings in the Washington DC area in recent years where cupcakes were presented as an alternative to the traditional wedding cake -- and it sure seemed to me that the guests enjoyed the cupcakes .... And properly designed and displayed, cupcakes can look quite pretty. Not as formal looking as a big old-fashioned, multi-tier wedding cake, but fun looking and colorful. And you can get so many varieties of cupcakes and have fun with that.

In weddings with cupcakes, sometimes the bride & groom cut a small ceremonial cake. Other times, they just feed each other a cupcake.

The cupcake look is something I wanted to do, but my FH was against it. Now that I've found a cake I love I don't mind, but I can clearly see the cupcake idea is all the rage now. My cousin did it and it was a huge success because people can basically help themselves to them throughout the night without having to dig the cake out of a bag. So not only is it less inexpensive, it's an easy clean up, especially if you guys are doing everything yourselves.

The pics of the cupcakes are gorgeous, but like everyone's said, keep in mind the added costs. Some say it's really tacky to get them from Sam's Club, but they're cheap. My cousin did that and simply added her own edible confetti to them herself to keep the cost down, so that's always an idea for you too.

    Best of luck!

I LOVE cupcakes, but we're having a traditional cake - only because our theme is black & white and I didn't think a cupcake tower would flow with that theme :-(

Tons of our brides are going the cupcake route, and having been to several cupcake weddings, I've gotta say - I love it too! So much room for creativity, and can be a bit easier on your wallet. Over the last several months, we've amassed quite a collection of cake and cupcake stands that I think you'll appreciate. http://ow.ly/ECUa

Please let us know if we can help in any other way - ****@*****.*** or (951) 734 3888 (Mon-Sat). Best of luck! ~ Shayna

I really love the cupcake idea, but I think the small cake on top is a great touch! And since you guys are doing the food yourselves it will make everything soooooo much easier!

Traci, I am SOOOOOOOO Jealous of you and EVERYONE else who is having/had CUPCAKES.... I'm going with a Traditional 5 tier Cake... ( my mother said it wasn't classy enough) and FH was a little skeptical too..... so I made my cake zebra print to SPITE all of them =)) but I would've LOVED to have CUPCAKES instead...
