Thoughts on cupcakes instead of traditional cake

I absolutely love the cupcake idea, I love the photos I have seen of them for weddings. My FH was positive he wanted the traditional cake but yesterday he said we could get cupcakes. I told him I wouldn't do that to him, if having the cake was important to him then so be it but he said no, the more...

I absolutely love the cupcake idea, I love the photos I have seen of them for weddings. My FH was positive he wanted the traditional cake but yesterday he said we could get cupcakes. I told him I wouldn't do that to him, if having the cake was important to him then so be it but he said no, the more he thinks about it, he said it would be easier and less messy(cutting and all that) Our venue has nothing todo with the foodnor cake. We aredoing allthe cooking ourselves and so we would be cutting the cake ourselves and serving it. I like the idea of just having the little topper cake for us to cut and feed to one another and then our guests can help themselves to a cupcake whenever they want Smiley smile Your thoughts on cupcakes versus traditional cake?

    Is anyone doing cupcakes for a centerpiece? We're considering this to save on $$ but am having trouble finding small cupcake stands that are affordable. I'm willing to diy but not finding many ideas out there either.

    I love the idea of both! Maybe having a small cake, just to keep 'tradition'. I've seen some amazing looking cupcake tiers at receptions, ..it really is a centerpiece and eye catcher for the wedding!

    Traci, your menu sounds very yummy! Hell I would come and serve the cake in exchange for a plate! LOL!!! Well I think I am letting go of the cupcake idea. When I asked FH if he had any idea of what type of cake he might want to have he immediately had an answer for the cake and icing flavor :o) I was looking a pictures of cakes online the other night and he looked over my shoulder and pointed at one that he liked and went back to watching tv. He's chimed in about very few things as far as the wedding is concerned so I want to be careful to accept the input he does have.

    I like the idea, I just think they're over done! To compromise, why not have a cupcake tower with a little cake on top for the two of you to cut? Or even a GIANT cupckae cake on top!

    Ours will either be a tower of them like this..with the small cake on top for us to cut....

    Or something set up like this...

    Our small cake will sit towards the front on a cake stand.

    Mrs Schmidt, see now that BIG cupcake looks birthday-like to me but having a traditional (but smaller) cake on top, to me, makes having the cupcakes/cupcake tower look very pretty Smiley smile

    LOL, I didn't think of the giant cupcake as birthday-ey to me, but know that you mention it, it does look lke that! I like the first pic also.

    I think we are going to do cupcakes, as well as a small cake for show, which we will eat the next day, at my moms house with family. cupcakes are so practical, we are actually going to go with bite size, because when people eat cake at weddings it's usually just a small piece anyway, and what better way than a small piece of square/rectangle cake than a cute bite size cupcake Smiley smile
