They lost my engagement ring!

Melissa, on October 17, 2012 at 8:07 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 28

At the beginning of September I brought my engagement ring to a national chain to have a custom wedding band made due to the unique shape of my ring. Yesterday I called for an update on the status of everything since they had the ring much longer than the 2 weeks they said they would need it for. The store calls me back 45 minutes later and tells me they have LOST my engagement ring and never even started the band!! I have 59 days until my wedding and they lost my ring!! I am beyond upset and stressed. They are telling me that it will be at least 40 days to recreate my ring and make the band. I don't even know what to do. Can I even trust them now?

Oh wow!! I don't know what I would do!! I'd be freaking out as well. I suppose if you want them to re-create a ring and band you're going to have to trust them and wait. I'm so sorry, with 59 days to go, I think I'd definitely be in bridezilla mode and demand they work faster or reimburse me for what they lost. Did you have the ring insured?

Oh my....I would go down there immediately with your FH and raise holy hell!! Go to the management right away!!! 40 days to recreate your ring? Are you kidding me! I would demand it be done immediately, and compensate you for your time etc....plus that would NOT be the original ring your FH gave to you. Smiley sad Obviously you cant really go somewhere else unless they refund your money for the ring....what a mess! I am soooooo sorry!!!

Holy crap. I would just try to get ALL your money back, including the cost of your engagement ring. If the people in the store try to give you any guff, take it up the chain to corporate. Pretty sure the corporate office will bend over backwards. That is a heinous mistake.

Man thats messee up, but what i would do since it wasnt your fault. Make them understand that your wedding is coming up in those amount of days so they need to put your ring as priorty number 1. Your brought your ring in advance and it there duty to make you happy. I hope this helps

The ring was both insured personally and they insured my ring when they took it. I am being offered two options: Choose anything they make for the insured amount or have them recreate the ring. I was going to meet with the store manager yesterday to discuss this and he called out sick. Did they call me to tell me not to come in? No! Now I have to make the 45 minute trip there again today to meet with him. I just can't believe this is actually happening. The best part is that they knew for at least a few days it was missing. When were they going to inform me?!?!?!?!?!?!

Wow that is terrible...i would have them recreate the ring and have them make the band free of charge for the inconvience and stress they are causing...remember there is always someone higher in management then who you speak with so if they cant meet what you want be stern and ask for someone above them

This is going to sound terrible, but do you perhaps have a very intimidating parent? I don't know how old you are, but people tend to take younger people less seriously in circumstances like these. If it were me, I'd have my mom go in there and wig out until they did exactly what I wanted. I don't think you should trust this jeweler at all. And I think you should publicize what happened as much as possible so that it doesn't happen to anyone else.

    Leanna,

I have actually thought of getting my mother involved. No one can wig out like her. Unfotunately she is about 3 hours away. My FH is good at getting his way in stores and will not back down until he gets what he wants. I did get to meet with the associate that helped design the wedding band yesterday and since she will be there tonight as well we went over a few options and she is going to have timelines ready when I get there. She even warned me that the manager is difficult and has already alerted the district manager to the situation. I plan on posting this story on every review board available. The resolution just better be exactly what I want.

I would go up there and raise hell. I would tell them they have two weeks to recreate since they've already had it for two weeks. And that you expect all expenses paid for it otherwise they will be reported to the BBB and you will be sure everyone knows how irresponsible they are. My ring is the only ring I want... It's my original and well they wouldn't like me one bit because I would not be a nice lady. I would also demand reimbursement for your time and gas for them not telling you he called in. How do you just lose a ring??? Most places keep them under lock and key!

Update: Apparently my ring was shipped in the same box as another item to this 3rd party designer and the other item made it there, my ring was the only thing missing!!

Wow that is a nice threat that they alerted the district manager. I would immediately go to the boss the big one over the whole chain. I would be polite then flip unless they were kissing my butt and every square inch of it.

Kay Jewelers lost my engagement ring. After meeting with the incredibly rude store manager and his refusal to even be bothered to help the situation I feel that keeping thier name out of my post would be unfare to anyone who could potentially trust them with thier jewelery in the future. Their lack of professionalism and attitude after they LOST my engagement ring has turned what should have been a wounderful time into a horrible and stressful experience.

What you need to do is go there and throw a fit like Amy said.

Something similar happen to my wife and I. Once we went to the jewelry place and yelled at the manager...they made a brand new ring in a week.

:/ I'm so sorry this happened to you! I would be devastated. As all the other ladies said, GO RAISE HELL. screw that, they should have had an extremely close eye on it! Not only that, why didn't they tell you and how the hell would it take 40 DAYS?! uh, no, just get your ass in there and make a ring people. How does Kay work? are they all owned by the same person? I wanted a ring from there Smiley sad

Call corporate with a clear head and a nice firm voice. The more crazy you sound the less they'll want to help.

Oh, Melissa, this makes me so nervous because my ring is from Kay (even though I specifically told FH not to buy from them. Sigh. He's lucky it's pretty.) I am so sorry that you had to go through this and I hope they fix it fast. Please keep us updated.
