That one thing you wish you hadn't spent so much money on ...

heidi, on July 19, 2014 at 9:56 AM Posted in Planning 0 37

Still kinda smarting over the cost of my veil. If I could do it over, I probably wouldn't have gotten it or at least taken the time to search for something cheaper. It was a spur of the moment buy.

What do you wish you hadn't spent so much money on and perhaps would do over if you had the chance?

Maybe the $12 I spent on tulle to try and make my own veil?? It was a HUGE disaster and now I have yards and yards of tulle taking up valuable space. You *may* have been able to find something else, but so many ladies have gotten cheap veils only to regret it later, so I wouldn't beat yourself up over not spending more time on it.

Hmm I don't think I've regretted anything too much yet. Only thing I can think of is we made flower balls/kissing balls and I bought a lot of flowers from Michaels that cost me well over $100, and I regret not scouring more dollar stores to find similar flowers for cheaper.

Same. I didn't shop around for the accessories I tried on at the bridal shop. Just got everything at once before researching.

Accessory from the bridal shop. I bought this stupid custom sash that has been nothing but a pain in the ass (well, the woman I bought it from was a pain) and an added stress because of the crazy cakes who made it. And now, I am not sure I will even use it. Was bought from the dress shop's accessory person, running her own business out of the dress shop, bought in an impulse and on the high that was finding the dress! Spent enough that it makes me SICK! What was I thinking?

I'm not even sure I *like* the veil. That's the problem. I think I very easily could have gone without. But I paid for it, so now I feel like I have to use it...

Definitely the veil. It was about $200 and I'm only wearing it for the ceremony!

I felt silly about my veil - it was $70 and my dress was only $200. At the same time, I had to get a veil that matched my dress and the veil does match (my dress is two different colors so it was not easy). I did not however try on any other veils and now I think I want a hair piece to go with it. I feel ridiculous for needing to spend more on a veil and headpiece than I spent on my gown. I also went to Hobby Lobby in February and bought $100 of "stuff" that I have no idea how I will use. The good thing is even if I do not use it for the wedding, I can use it for other crafts.

My headband. I absolutely love it, however I feel bad that my mom picked up the tab for it along with my dress. She originally said she'd pay $500 towards my dress, which as a single mom with 3 kids was more than generous in my book. I fell in love with a dress that was on sale for $900 from the $1399 it originally love. Unfortunately I fell in love with a headband that was marked down to $125 from $175. I tried telling her I'm sure I could find one on etsy I liked for cheaper, but she wasn't having that. She didn't want to chance me settling on something, but I wish it would've been more affordable since she picked up the tab.

Also, She decided to stretch her budget and instead of covering $500 of my dress she paid for the whole thing while I was changing out of it

I haven't purchased anything myself that I regret. I did buy some decor when I first originally started planning my wedding and now I don't think I'll be able to use some of it because I've changed the style or theme. . . But who knows I still might be able to incorporate stuff somewhere within the wedding! I really don't regret my veil or sash, I absolutely LOVE them. But my mom did purchase them, and the veil was $200 and the sash was like $80 . I knew I could find cheaper options that I would like on Etsy, I had even looked at them! But she would not have it. She wanted to buy the ones I had tried on in the store.

No regrets, however I spent ALOT on flowers, but looking at all the pictures they were certainly a stand out accessory for the whole day, and I love fresh flowers. And I bought a veil and ended up skipping it altogether but it was only $20.

Definitely my veil. I don't know why I even bought the one I did in the first place. It didn't even match my dress well. $200 veil and it's being relegated to being my bachelorette party veil. I ordered a WAY cuter one on etsy for 1/3 the price of the original. I guess if it's In good shape after the bach party I'll try to sell it..... other than that, money well spent.

A $70 banner. It's cheaply made, only will be used once; and it wasn't what I expected. Blah!

The effing extensions I just had to have for what I thought would be my dream hairdo...paid almost $500 for the extensions & then another $200 for her to put them in for my 1st hair trial. The real kicker to this is the stupid things came out THE SAME AFTERNOON, after I washed my hair out from the trial & tried to style it with my own hair...I couldn't make those damned things blend to save my soul...wound up almost having a full on panic attack because I looked freaking rediculous & couldn't imagine going to work with obvious fake looking hair, so approximately 6 hours after the stylist put them in I took them right back out again...talk about a waste of money!!!! :-(
