Thank you card for monetary gift wording

Kemmie, on October 21, 2014 at 8:14 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 14

I've been wondering how detailed you are to be for a cash gift thank you card. Usually you'd write something like "Aunt Suzy, thank you so much for the silver picture frame, we love it so much and plan to use it to display our wedding picture in our living room..."

For a money gift do you explicitly state the amount gifted and your intended use of it, or thank you for $x, or just thank you for the generous cash gift it'll really help us start our life together.

Basically which is proper etiquette:

A) Thank for the specific amount and what you're using it for

B) Just thank for the specific amount (use not need)

C) No explicit amount mentioned but talk of intended use

I don't know if this question makes sense but yeah I hope you get what i mean...

We have been getting checks in the mail for people who can't attend. I just wrote what we intend to use the money for. ie "honeymoon in st. Lucia" or "we are going to buy a GoPro camera to bring to the wedding/honeymoon"

I would say C, I don't think you're supposed to mention the specific amount.

The answer is C. You absolutely mention what you intend to use it for.
