Tax refund = making wedding expenses easier?

Stephanie, on March 6, 2019 at 1:38 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 50

Just thinking here, as I received my tax refund and the majority went to bills and some savings. But thankfully I was able to budget accordingly to make a payment towards the venue and my flowers!

It's a sigh of relief knowing my remaining balance for the florist is $50 and the venue is still a painful $1,500 Smiley xd (we've paid $1,100 so far) and it's not super bad but when it's due soon and your wedding date is approaching faster than anticipated it can be very stressful lol We are paying for everything on top of having many financial status changes along the way so it's pretty challenging but so glad things are getting paid.

Anyone else looking forward to their refund for help with wedding expenses?

We allocated some of ours for wedding related things. Bills are always taken care of so the only other thing we had to use ours for was tires for our truck (expensive). Other than that we will put the rest towards the wedding

We were counting on our refund, lol!! Otherwise, we wouldn't be having nearly as nice of a wedding. We already have a general idea of what our refund will be every year, so we were able to budget that in. With my tax refund, I was able to pay off: the venue, photographer, videographer, and DJ. I was also able to purchase bridal party gifts and a few other miscellaneous wedding items. SUCH A RELIEF!!!

WOW! That's really good, we have to pay the photographer, florist and venue and the rest are miscellaneous expenses. Other wise, we are good to go!

That is awesome! I am currently working with our florist on cost, etc. Other than the florist, we still have our caterer, alcohol, and other miscellaneous items.

I got $4,000 back. $1,000 went to credit cards (we've been using it for wedding related expenses already) The rest was allocated to some bills and whatever was left was for my final deposits. I put the deposit down on our cabin (for us and wedding party, $815 ), DJ $350, catering $500, transportation $100, and another payment on my dress $400 something. I now have everything booked for the wedding (in October) and its just a matter of paying off the remaining balances on each (we still owe about $15,000) -_- lol

Very! I mean every time I go to Ikea I wish it was to pick out a kitchen LOL! It's crazy how as adults we get excited over counter tops and home goods but we used to judge our parents Smiley laugh

I wish that was my return!! haha but hey anything helps. That's quite the amount but the good thing is you have some more time.

    My flowers are $50

    Hair is $50

    Photography $1200

    Venue $1500

Hubby is paying for his tux on his own so I'm not really factoring that it. So I think $2,800 is not too bad.

I know the feeling! Hang in there! we're making as many payments towards the venue to bring the balance down by April. Good this is that they have been very flexible and let us pay past our due date. They really don't care as long as they see you are making payments and your CC is on file lol

Mine are graduate loans and I graduate in May so we haven't even started yet...eeek. Not excited about how expensive they are but I'm sure going to feel good when they're gone!

Yes! luckily my loan was only 3.7% but who wants to pay extra thanks to interest. That's great you're starting now. My biggest mistake was waiting those 6 months of grace period.

Well we have a child so we get the earned income credit here in FL. So thats literally the only reason why its where it is lol. Our wedding is a destination wedding and has 100 guests.

Venue $3200 (my parents are paying for this)

    Photography $1200

Dress/alterations/ accessories $2400 (My mom paid for $500 of this)

    Cabin for wedding party $5500

    Catering (including cake) $1400

Hunnys tux we havent done yet but allotted $1200 between his suit and ring and accessories

Transportation $675 (His parents are paying for this)

    Bar $550

    DJ $700

    Hair&makeup $170

We definitely planned a lot our biggest expense is the cabin but we have it for a week and its a 9 bedroom cabin in the smoky mountains. It was our gift to the wedding party since its a destination wedding and we aren't paying for tuxs or dresses or anything like that.

That's awesome! I've heard great things about the smokey mountains! You guys will have great scenery. Ours is a destination also for our guests, we live in FL as well. We aren't paying for dresses or tuxes but we are being budget friendly for our bridal party as well taking into account they are travelling and it's the least we can do.

We budgeted around paying the whole wedding ourselves with no other income sources (bonuses, taxes, etc.). We figured if we live "tight" to be able to pay for everything ourselves. Any extra cash we get in the mean time can be put into a savings account or to add a few little extras to the wedding we had originally decided were not worth spending the money on. We will be doing our entire wedding for about $5,200!
