TACKY WEDDING STUFF.....

MrsCalderon, on August 13, 2016 at 3:45 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 238

So besides the honeyfunds, money jars, self-catering madness, what are the other tacky things you have seen at other weddings???????

Head tables and firing wedding party members. Gaps.

Money dances that aren't culturally appropriate. And money races. I think there is a name for it but it's not coming to me.

Cash bars, toonie bars. Butterfly releases. I can think of more. So many things....

Auctioning the garter. Someone was on here complaining that she only got $20 for hers. She was expecting more like $500.

I had to Google what a toonie bar is. Ew! Who thinks that is a good idea???? I'm also not a fan of the clinking of glasses to get the bride and groom to miss. Not so much tacky, just annoying af.

I went to my first toonie bar wedding in northern Alberta last month.

I only went to one wedding, but the bride and groom went around to each table and stood there until people (who were trying to eat dinner) said "congrats." Literally stared at me for 5 minutes because I wouldn't say it. I didn't (and still dont) agree with their marriage, as they both cheat regularly and are a shame to what marriage is supposed to be. It was annoying and tacky, IMO.

Anything that hurts the environment like balloon releases.

TiffanyGomez, that's called table visits. It's a way of greeting each guest. It's usually that or a receiving line. It's not against etiquette. It's important to greet your guests.

Sorry, I'll explain. In some areas of Canada the drinks are $2 (a Canadian "toonie") each. "Toonie bar". Sometimes I forget I'm Canadian.

Dove release for sure, so wrong on so many levels!

Throwing rice and Jordan almonds is integrated in Greek Cypriot culture, I never thought of it as tacky until I saw it here. It's interesting to see how things taken for granted somewhere are considered meh in other parts of the world. This fascinates me. But I guess this is comparable to the garter toss, which for me sounds a bit wtf.

Do people even get the garter back?

Agreed that the last dollar dance we saw was so awkward!!! Thanks to this forum, I used direct quotes, and was able to talk my parents out of wanting to do it for mine!

"Why would I ask my guest for money"

"They've already spent money coming, I don't want to force them to give me money"

Anyways, parents fell right into my trap and we moved on lol

Anything to do with the garter is gross to me. Digging around under your new wife's dress in front of a bunch of guests? (sometimes without using your hands.) *shudder*

I have to disagree with Jordanian almonds. They are tradition in my culture.

@Jacks no I know that haha but don't stare at me while I'm trying to eat until I acknowledge you. I found it rude that they didn't even say thank you, didn't talk or say hi.. Just stood there until EVERYONE at the table said congratulations. That's the part I found rude. Plus, I would have said it If they didn't stare in silence, not even smile or say thank you to those who said congrats. Sorry I wasn't clear!

Maybe I've had bad experiences with the almonds. Are they suppose to be rock hard?

They are, yeah. It's a hard candy coating on them.
