Tacky or not tacky??

Just curious here. My husband and I got married 3 years ago at the justice of the peace. I have never had a wedding and really want one. Now we are financially able to have a wedding or vow renewal but I'm reading that it's "tacky" to have a wedding dress, a cake? Bouquet, etc. I really want these...

Now we are financially able to have a wedding or vow renewal but I'm reading that it's "tacky" to have a wedding dress, a cake? Bouquet, etc. I really want these things. Not to show off but because I want those memories and I want to stand up in front of God and family and friends and recommit my love for him. I just don't see anything wrong with that. Any thoughts?

@stacy I'm having something similar.. A vow renewal. It's our 10 year anniversary. We were 20 years old when we got married and didn't have money or our own home but we knew we wanted to be married. We had a court ceremony and both agreed on a 10 year vow renewal.. So here we are planning a vow renewal ceremony together. I am wearing a white dress (not a ball gown), I'm having a cake (everyone knows I love cake!), and lots of yummy food/ treats catered.. No bridal showers- bachelorette parties- gifts. Just our friends and family their to celebrate US... Our invitations say vow renewal on them.. So yes I think it's okay to have a vow renewal and wear a dress and have a cake and bouquet.

Vow renewal is fine. You can wear a smart dress or suit of any color, your vendors won't gouge you, and you can chuck out any dumb traditions you didn't want in the first place (like you would've anyways, but still). Don't get married time and again. Look how poorly that worked out for Mariah Nick, or Heidi and Seal.

@Lauren- You are so right! Like that time she told someone else her FH was having strokes? Genius.

Don't have excessive vow renewals and don't make fun of other people's weddings? I know, I'm just so the anti Miss Manners. If only I could be classy like you, Lauren.

So basically want a big party with a white dress and tons of photos.

    You don't want showers/baches/presents/etc.

If this is correct, I don't see a problem with it. It's basically just a party and an excuse for you to have the party you wanted (but for some reason didn't) 3 years ago. If you're not being gift grabby or telling people this is a wedding instead of calling it a renewal, I say go for it. You missed the party part of the wedding 3 years ago and just want to experience that. I can understand that.

Remember the WW rule that we couldn't talk about Nick Lachey? Does that also apply to Nick Cannon?

At the end of the day it's your decision. I think it's awesome and would love to celebrate with you as a wedding guest regardless of the situation. Anyone that loves you too won't care and those that do screw them.
