Ok this is going to sound stupid but since we are on the topic, I can't do makeup. Like it's basically a foreign language to me. I used to not wear anything except special occasions, but recently I started doing a foundation, bronzer, and blush just because I felt it evened out my skin tone and made me feel less ugly lol. Any suggestions on where to start? You-tube tutorials? Doesn't Ulta do application lessons or something? I'm so clueless.
@kaylie : do you have a Sephora near you? They offer classes were they teach contouring and whatnot. I went to one of those and found it helpful. Oh and the class was free but it's hard not to want to buy some of the stuff you use!
For me the more I just trial and error the more it helps. If you have time just sit and play around for awhile. Everyone's face shape is so different. It's about finding what looks best for you.n
@Kaylie I'm the same way. I started watching youtube tutorials and went out and bought foundation, etc, but I still feel like I have no idea what I'm doing and always feel like a clown lol
@Matt/Jo--The huge one posted above def too much, and the Too Faced Sweet Peach was limited edition and sold out everywhere BUT absolutely worth the hype and they are bringing it back in November. It's become one of my favorites.
@Jaci, GOOD PICK on your videographer. Talk about super flattering angles for your wedding video, you're gonna look awwwwessooome from that vantage point
And just seeing you guys post the screenshot of Alice in Wonderland made my eyes go all starry and hazy...sad part is the pics don't do it justice, it's like a unicorn in real life.
@Jo you're my kinda girl for sure. Eyeshadow palettes are my weakness and I can't help myself. I just bought the ABH Modern Renaissance w/ my 20% off from Ulta (I kept telling myself I wouldn't and didn't need it but you know how that goes). Didn't think I loved it when I opened it up the first time, actually used it yesterday and didn't think I loved the first combo I did as I was putting it on...until I looked in the mirror and was like WHOA I doooo love it. Did another combo again from it today and pretty sure it's a KEEP. So much for my snap judgements
Thanks ladies. I do have a Sephora about 10 minutes from me! So maybe I will check that out. One of my really good friends started selling Younique so she's been getting way more into makeup and experiments a lot so I'm hoping that will rub off on me.
@Kaylie- YES- ulta and Sephora do lessons- you just have to go in and ask.
But for the mean time-
Jacklyn HIll (she's annoying AF- but her tutorials are ON.POINT.)
Manny MUA- he's great- so much love
Make up Geek- they have some lower production quality tutorials- but still excellent information.
Wayne Goss- he's brilliant- he keeps them short and sweet and to the point.
ThriftThick- she's great- very down to earth "like you and me"
BatalashBeauty
LustreLux (I think this is DesiPerkins)
Tati
Remember- it's a skill- not just something you "do" just when you want it to magically happen.
It takes time and effort- and practice. It is 100% achievable- but it takes time.
@Kir- they let you take 20% off of the palette? I've walked in with coupons and they have said it's limited- I.E. no high end brand make up. ugh.
The swamp queen was my big splurge- and Jeffree Star's unicorn blood. Modern Renaissance is not limited- so I'll just have to wait till after the wedding. It's CHALK full of colors that belong on my face.
RANT: I have to work at a different branch (in a different city) than usual for the next two weeks, the computers here are so outdated that I cannot even use google or google chrome, The only plus side is that I can get on WW but it constantly says "browser out of date"
Okay I know I'm totally jumping in here, but I got a wedding invite from a family friend addressed only to me. Is the general consensus that I should reach out and ask if H is invited too? I know that's probably rude, but it's also rude to only invite me to the wedding, sooo....
Matt- Alyssa makes an excellent point about the naked palettes (and I personally find them boring- and wouldn't recommend them to a starry eyed make up junkie- I'd pick something less practical- only b/c she's not going to buy it herself- but that's just me and my practical- buy things I can use- not just pretty colors opinion)
But I digress the naked palettes are broken down in to like- traditional "neutrals" then copper neutrals then rose golds. so they are all considered "neutrals' but as you can see they aren't the same neutrals.
If you take her in odds are she'll gravitate to go look immediately at something she's been looking at for a while on line.
Also kat von d's mi vida loca- that palette is stunning- and very useful- less practical for travel- but a stunning palette.
@Jo- yeah I think the problem is that I'm impatient and don't practice enough...so when I put it on and it looks bad, I just take it off and stop. I get discouraged easily when it comes to makeup lol. I literally just wear mascara on a daily basis.
@PC, I would definitely ask. Otherwise you're just going to keep wondering and either not go, or show up without DH. And if he was supposed to be invited the bride and groom would wonder where he is and then you'd be kicking yourself lol.
Also PS, I think Naked palettes are beautiful but intimidating. MIL got me a Smashbox palette and I love it, but probably underutilize it because again, intimidating.
@og Sarah: that's my issue too. I've only started working on it more now that I'm doing my own makeup for the wedding. Just keep at it! And get a pack of makeup remover wipes so you can just do it over and over again.
@LaurenET I had it all typed "Please hire a videographer so he can capture the look of disgust when guests see him and look down at the crock pot of meatballs they are schlepping around in their (probably new) dress attire."
