Sweetheart Table or Head Table?

Which seating arrangement are you choosing for your wedding: a sweetheart table (just you and your new spouse) or a head table (you, your new spouse, and wedding party members)? Or maybe even a different option altogether? Share what you're choosing for your reception seating arrangements!

We have a sweetheart table provided by the venue! We will sit close to our immediate families during the dinner, then I am sure we will ditch the table to dance and party all night. Our wedding party is large, so they will be seated at longer tables close to the perimeter of the dance floor, then we will take the tables down for the party. The table also serves as decor within our ceremony.

That's so fun! Are you also seating the plus ones of your closest friends at the head table?

I hear you on that! My husband and I loved our sweetheart table for that reason. We got to enjoy that time together before getting pulled away to do photos/video, greeting friends and family, dancing, etc. Since you'll be spending so much time apart before the wedding, getting to take a few moments during dinner to spend with just each other will be nice.

Both are great reasons to choose a sweetheart table! It's so considerate of you to make sure your wedding party gets to sit with their loved ones during dinner.

We’re doing a head table or “kings” table. We don’t want to feel like we’re being watched while we eat! We also want to make sure to eat. And we have a small-ish wedding party. This was the best choice for us. ☺️

My plan is to have a table with him and his parents and then placeholder seats for my parents that are no longer with me

I recommend putting a few extra tables and chairs out if you're not planning on doing a seating chart. People do not typically seat themselves efficiently, so the extra tables should help prevent situations such as couples having to sit at separate tables since there weren't any more tables with two open seats, or your grandma ending up at the table with your partner's college friends because the table with her family members filled up too quick. There would be some tables with empty seats, but that's better than someone getting stuck at a table where they know no one just because it was the last open seat.

That sounds like a cool setup! Awesome that you'll both have your closest family members near your sweetheart table.

That is awesome! I love that your head table is your family table, celebrating your first meal as an official family!

We had a small (40 person) destination wedding. It was important to us to have something small and intimate, where we could spend ample time with all our guests, and everyone would feel like family. So we chose to have one long table for everyone.
