I'm surprised everyone is shocked at the thought of a large sweet 16, maybe because I'm Mexican and quinceneras (15th birthdays) can cost as much as weddings I dont find it to be a big deal, at all.
@Betsy Please don't trivialize the use of the word triggered. Trigger/triggered is a clinical term and has a real meaning. It's insulting to use it when you actually mean that someone is overreacting or acting impulsively.
I agree with Maria (MrsBdeG), don't use triggered as a joke.

@Jacks -I agree completely. Don't think anything I said suggested OP or her defenders' should be censored? And my comments are pointing these class/money differences out and explaining why this post is gonna ruffle some feathers, not shaming OP. Sharing my fiance's family's story was to try and give the wealthier/more privileged folks in here some perspective.
I'm pretty sure OP is gonna survive the lighthearted quips and memes posted in response to the information she provided on this lavish party.
(Reviews facts: 150 guest party planned for Sweet 16 for daughter who is currently only 11 years old and also plans to purchase new Ranger Rover vehicle for said 16 year old)
At 16 I had to work to help pay bills and take care of my alcoholic brother and schizophrenic father and both men could not stay out of the hospital. My dad was overdosed on anaesthesia and that led to the chemical imbalance. Lol had my birthday in the psych ward. Other times, we were worried if we could afford a meal. Rice and eggs was the dinner of champions. And that was one of the less hard years of my life. All of my friends were rich. I had Latin class with Bobbi Brown's son and Colbert lives in my town, as well. This is what I was surrounded by. I slept on a floor for years while my friends shopped at LV.
Regardless of all that, it's not my place to judge this mother. She asked a fairly simple question and as easy as it is to question her rationale, we should just answer the question. Anywho, you could use this app. The checklist points can be edited. I would just be careful with what you deem appropriate to ask. As much as I like to think this isn't crazy, I think back to my birthday and can see why all these people are questioning you. That is unavoidable in any forum so, tread lightly. Also, so much can change from now until 2021, I would slow down and not stress about it.
@FutureMrsR - who cares, it's just money. Like, maybe I'm the only one, but I don't give a shit about cars. Not my thing. I'll drive my Volkswagen Jetta with pride for as long as she keeps pumping.
I'm sure OP has real life problems, too. Money doesn't make her life any better. The fact that her daughter is getting this extravagant Sweet 16 doesn't mean her life is going to be all easy and glamourous. She'll have her own problems in life that money can't get her out of.
It's just a party people!! It's just a car!! It's just money!! Stop being so triggered by something so insignificant.

I went to large Bar and Bat Mitzvahs too, 150-300 people, mostly family of the person in question. Even Confirmation and graduation parties that large (Italian, Irish, Greek), but at 16, I can tell you that the large parties I saw that were blow-outs were HUGE, and the kids that had them didn't appreciate them at all but expected them because they got a party for everything.
Personally, I'm not one for throwing a party every time a kid does something special and by 16, your kid probably would rather you give them a couple of hundred bucks and let them go out on their own with their friends to a restaurant for the evening.
It's the impoverished family members of mine that got knocked up soooooooo ... lol that wasn't very kind. I am considered old in comparison to not have had kids yet at age 27. All I can hope is that with all that, your daughter enjoy the party, remains healthy, and lives a life where she is nice to people on forums haha.
We all have our crap. I'm thankful for the life I've lived given that it got me here where I am using an app to plan a wedding to an amazing man
Wow I should really get on the ball thinking about my 9 year olds sweet 16 lmao ... I love throwing party's . .. but you are way to far out ... if you can afford it like you say why plan now ... a sweet 16 should be a good event ... but I'm sure I wanted one at 11 but at 16 .. I was completely different person .. guess what I didint want one ... wait until she s 15 .. start planning .. start saving now ... oh and about the car nice thought . .. but keep in mind she s a child and will most likely wreck her first car ... I mean I wrecked 2 lmao and tried to park in a parking garage in Philly last year and misjudged and crunched In my door ... how about a good old Geo lol
Quinceañeras (Sweet 16s if you waited a year) were a HUGE deal in my family growing up. All my cousins had extravagant parties, as is tradition in Hispanic culture. I can tell you that you do not need 4 years to plan.
4 years to save money, yes. 4 years to plan, NO.
I never had one because I chose a trip to Rome with my parents over a party (over a decade later and I'm still waiting for that trip, btw.) but my sister had a Sweet 16 2 years ago. We planned it in ONE month.
If you live on Long Island or Northern NJ or CT (and I believe Miami as well?) Sweet 16s held at wedding venues are very common place- with decorations, 100+ people; photographer, photo booth, plated dinners, etc. I never knew it wasn't a thing everywhere else until I moved off the island. I've been to Bar Mitzvahs in fancy NYC catering venues and Sweet 16s larger than my own wedding. For those of you freaking out, it's very much a regional thing.

Yvette, Wedding Wire has a sister site (I think it is Event Wire) where some of the same vendors (caterers, venues, DJs) are listed.
