OP I don't think you need to start now, but good luck! I didn't have a sweet 16 but an elegant 18 instead with prob about 150 guests. My mom did an amazing job. My theme was red roses.

I drove from the DMV to Taco Bell and my sister bought me a Taco 12 pack on my 16th birthday. It was dope.

I know people who have paid $10k to $30k for their daughter's quinceanera party for a 15 year old girl. It's a huge deal in their culture.

Her tastes will probably change. Heck venues and vendors will change. New one will become available and others may move or go out of business.

You don't even need four years to plan a wedding. I would just save and a year out contact a reputable event planner.

I can't imagine being so bored that I would spend 4 years planning a party for a child

Geez, my kid probably hates me. She's never had more than 20 people at her parties. Hell, half of them have been at a park!

It's pretty common especially in Hispanic culture to have a 15 or quinceanera. I had one myself. No it was not 30k and it doesn't have to be either. Don't plan it yet wait till she is 14 as taste and ideas change. Those bashing the 15 party itself i don't think should as it's Hispanic culture and tradition really...it's a big party yes but it's not for oh I have money like that MTV show made it seem and portrayed it. It's a coming of age no longer a girl your becoming a woman type of situation and so much more. I would say it's a mini wedding sure lol but it doesn't have to be. I didn't get a car or anything ridiculous for my 15 it was just a party with family and friends and it was a special moment.

At 11 I was still wearing little mermaid knit sweaters and watching Animaniacs as soon as I got home from school. At 16, I wanted to drink 40oz beers with my friends and got in trouble for making out with a guy named John in the hallway in between classes. I wish I was kidding, but I'm not even a little.

Point is .. she will change. You don't need 4 yrs to plan a party.

@missmtomrs nowhere in this thread did she even state this was for a 15th birthday nor was anyone bashing anyone's culture. Unless we're reading two entirely different threads.

@Miss.MroMrs..K, I don't think anyone is bashing a quinceanera, and I think a lot of us know it's a cultural thing. But OP already stated that she and her husband can afford and want to throw a huge party and plan on getting their daughter a BMW or Range Rover. That's why I joked about My Super Sweet 16. It was all about the status and showing off.

There's nothing wrong with planning a sweet 16, not sure why people are so up in arms about it. I had one, it was awesome! But I will agree you probably don't need 4 years to plan.

@alyssachu same! I'm reading this and feel like my mom could've been the OP back in the day. My bat mitzvah was probably fancier and bigger than my wedding will be. It's probably the reason I want a low key wedding! I don't know that we started three years out but I know it was planned in a similar way that a wedding is planned
