Still getting married during shelter-in-place?

Shauna, on April 28, 2020 at 9:52 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 5
Hello! My 4/18/20 wedding was cancelled due to the coronavirus/ shelter-in-place restrictions. We decided to reschedule our wedding to 5/29/21. That being said, we’d still love to get married—possibly on 5/29/20–then have our “wedding” next year. The shelter-in-place was just extended through May (Bay Area, California).

Is anyone finding creative ways to abide by the restrictions and still get married...with the required witnesses, etc.? Please let me know 😀.
Thanks in advance and take care!

I am! We just found out Friday that we can still be "legal" on our original date. Our location is restricted to visitor entry, but allowing property owners and immediate family. My FIL is able to take us down and get us in. Just me, FH, and our 2 year old. We need 2 witnesses so I offered my photographer 200 dollars to do a mini session. She said yes, so theres our other witness! Our big bang will still be the postponed date in Oct, but this date was super important to us. So May 13th is happening!

Thank you!! Our officiant also told us if we couldn't come down, he'd be willing to do a virtual ceremony on zoom. We considered that as well. Could be an option for you if its legal in CA?

That’s definitely a possibility! I just need to figure out how to coordinate with witnesses and the signing of the license (which we got the week before SIP began).

    Hi Shauna,

I'm truly sorry that you're going through this. Postponing your wedding is not an easy decision, so you probably don't want to do it again.

There are several ongoing discussions on the subject of having two events (ceremony now, reception later OR elopement now, full wedding later). Maybe you can find some good ideas/suggestions? Check these out:

    Covid-19: Marriage now, wedding later?

Covid19 Brides still getting married on original date?

Small ceremony now, big wedding later

Etiquette in the time of coronavirus?

I'm Eloping because of Covid-19.. can i still do all of the traditional events?

The bottom line is that you should do exactly what feels right for YOU. I'm wishing you the best of luck with your new plan, whatever it may be! Smiley heart
