Stand Up Straight! FH may leave you for someone with better posture...

Jamie, on August 20, 2012 at 5:40 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 25

I had my first fitting today and the seamstress offered quite a bit of unsolicited advice. Her biggest concern (aside from dress-related things), was that FH might have a wandering eye and leave me for a gal with better posture. No joke...she even suggested that I should wear my hair down at the wedding to hide my terrible posture. I was so amused that I wasn't even offended or insulted. Truth be told, I do have terrible posture...but I didn't think it was a threat to my relationship. Haha!

ETA: She's apparently a fantastic seamstress and takes such pride in her work that every bride's dress fits them like a glove. Before my next fitting, I'll just have to steel myself for some tough love.

Haha that's cute! Is she a little old lady, because I'm imagining her as one. Sounds like something someone's grandma would tell them lol.

I usually have great posture, but looking at pics of a wedding I was in, I had awful posture! I think I was slouching since I was easily six inches taller than everyone else in the bridal party lol

Kimber, I'm about 6" taller than 75% of my bridesmaids, so I'm already worried about looking like a giantess next to so many pette ladies (and I'm only 5'6"). If I stand up my straightest, it will only compound the problem, haha!

Lol wow. crazy lady! mine just complain if you have more weight than they like. yet they are all short lil things with way more lbs than me. (not trying to be rude) when i got in my dress the first time. she was like ooooooo hunny you need to lose that arm fat. n i just laughed and was like ok. but she was so serious. i dont even have much arm fat. my arms are just a lil bigger than normal because of all the stuff i do in the army.

I am picturing a little old European lady. Well I'm picturing my FH's grandma! Lol.

That being said, you want to work on your posture now or you'll be staring at the floor when you're old. And don't worry about being taller than all your bridesmaids, if you slouch it'll ruin how nice your dress looks. It's the first thing I notice about models in bridal magazines, they look horrible all schlumped over!

LOL Wow! I'm picturing this lady (and at least she didn't say this to you!!!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VehnapcTaeY

And about being tall....I'm 5'8", I tower over all my bridesmaids and some of the groomsman Smiley xd But H is taller than me so its all good. I'm wearing heels for the ceremony, I decided after feeling awkwardly tall my whole life that this day I'm just going to own my tallness Smiley smile

I have horrible posture too. I have actually been thinking about how I need to work on it before the wedding.

That lady sounds like my late nana. She actually said to me one time "Amy you look so good! Not like last time I saw you. Yuck!"

    God love her.

Hahahahaha! I bet she's an elderly woman too.. They have absolutely no filter!!

She's got a point though...I know when I pay attention to my posture, I look thinner in pictures...

And your boobs don't look saggy! Good posture takes off ten pounds! Here are some examples. Extreme but they show the difference it can make easily.

To be noted, the lady in the bottom picture does look like she's leaning a bit forward, which is horrible on your feet, but her shoulders, etc. look ok.

LOL For me, it was my fiancee who got the sharp edge of my dress shop owner's/seamstresses' tongue. He was balky about tryng on a suit we were considering at the same shop where I got my dress, and she said (imagine an angry Asian voice) "She try on 30 dresses! You try on suit, NOW"! We're still giggling over that one... She did make self*deprecating comments about her own weight, to which I tried to respond tactfully by saying that a goldfish only grows as big as it's bowl. I was trying to emphasize that even though her own family in her home country may think she's too heavy, that it's all a matter of perspective. She never talked about weight again.

I have terrible posture.. I've had ulcerative colitis going on 15 years now and when it was really bad, I literally couldn't stand straight because a) I was so anemic I just didn't have the strength and b) standing straight put pressure on my intestines that were so inflamed and ulcerated that it really hurt!! So that resulted in many years of slouching and now it's hard for me to correct it, although I really am trying. I have a curve in my cervical spine that I am convinced makes it look like I am developing a hunch back even though everyone swears I'm being paranoid, but I am insanely self conscious about it. If I had nice enough hair to leave down for the wedding, I totally would!!

@EdieKristen: You SHOULD have a curve in your cervical spine! If your neck is straight it's called military neck! Lol. I bet you look fine. Here's an example pic (I feel pictures really make more sense then my babel)

No seamstress had better tell me to lose weight, or they will lose my business instantly. Its none of their business how fat you are, or what your posture is.

Keep your ears lined up above your shoulders.

My g'ma always told me to stand up straight, too.

Blah, so speaking of posture anyone have any great tips and tricks for perfecting it before the wedding? I have three weeks to get it down.
