Spilled ink on my ring!!!

BETTY, on November 5, 2010 at 5:34 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 30

I have a very hyper puppy. He chewed up a pen and decided to leave it on my night stand as a present to me...on TOP of my promise ring!! I ran to the kitchen to wash it off. It came off of the gold; I cannot say the same for the little diamonds on the band. I have blue diamonds now!! The warranty, of course, will not cover that. Any one know of something that would be able to clean it? Or do I have permanant blue diamonds?? =( Atleast it's not my engagement ring, but I'm still sad. THANKS!

Rubbing Alcohol usually gets ink of of your hands... so I would try that... or even babywipes... My baby had ink all over the sink and the babywipes took it right off.. IDK just a suggestion

Take it to the jewelry store asap. I have crazy dogs so I can relate!

I have used alcohol like Melissa suggested. I've only tried it on fabrics though and it's worked every time.

Hairspray also gets ink out of clothes.. I don't know if that's a crazy suggestion or not. I'd try alcohol first, if that doesn't do it then bring it to a jeweler. Depending on where you got it from, they might clean it for free.

I will try that. I guess if the alcohol doesn't work I will have to take it to the jewelers. Thanks, ladies!

Toothpaste and a soft bristled toothbrush if the alcohol doesn't work. That is what I use to clean my jewelry. It works really well!

No problem! I use it whenever my blue topaz ring gets cloudy with dirt, it works amazing! After I use it, the topaz looks almost see-through and is so sparkly! It is a bit harder to tell when my diamond is dirty, but after I clean it I'm like "WOW, it must have been so dirty!!"

You can try soaking it in water ... its regular ink right its probably just behind the diamonds... I don't think you can dye them can you???

I soaked it in hot water and it didn't come off. I don't think it's inside the diamond. I also think its just behind, but I just couldn't get it out. I'm hoping the alcohol and toothpaste get it off. I am soaking it right now.

Usually hair spray will take out permanent makers and ink too if alcohol doesn't get the job done. Or just take it to a jeweler pay 15-20 bucks and have them clean it out for you the best they can :-)

So I tried everyone's suggestions and one side cleaned up pretty good, but the other still has a couple blue diamonds, but it also cleaned up a little. one thing happened for sure...it's a lot shinier! lol I guess I will be taking it to the jewelers. Thank you all for your help.

Try milk with a high fat content. It might get some of the ink out. My aunt uses it to get india ink out of clothing.

My mom uses actual jewelry cleaner, she soaks the jewelry usually overnight after I've been around it, and then uses a soft bristle brush after that. It's gotten off everything I've done to her jewelry and mine. Smiley smile

I had the very same thing happen. I had a pen explode on my ring in January....the little diamonds on the side are still slightly purple. I've been using windex, and also jewelry cleaner and I get a little more off each time. It seems like I've gotten it all, then more comes to the surface. I'm not terribly worried, though, I figure the next time I rhodium plate it, the rest will come out.
