I'm fairly insulted by this. Granted I might be a bit sensitive about it right now but let's hear what you have to say.

A cake topper like this? funny? excuse me? NO!!! I know brides do try to lose weight for the wedding, but they should be made to feel beautiful, no matter what their size; that should be the real message..oh but then again I guess that wouldn't sell slimfast shakes; the company like many others loses out on the money if brides (and women in general) were to gain a self esteem boost. If anyone drinks those, I would say you should boycott.

I think they are just trying to make a point.. they don't actually expect people to buy those. They are just saying.. if you are concerned about your weight for your upcoming day.. try slimfast..

It's like the gas commercials where the peoples belly's bloat out.. Obviously they don't really look like that.. they are just saying maybe that's how you feel.

That is a bunch of crap. I wouldn't mind getting a cake topper that looked more like me but for slim fast to target heavier brides is really low. I don't like the add at all.

Weight and emotions aside....seeing a hole in the cake with a hand sticking out did make me laugh. Not trying to be insensitive, like i said weight and emotions aside.

It's all in good fun...take it as a grain of salt. This country has bigger problems to worry about.

I am a plus sized bride and while I don't agree with slimfast's marketing technique the first one with the hole is pretty flipping hilarious.

From a marketing standpoint, I think it is GENIUS to finally target this very specific group, and I think it will probably be very successful. I also think it was smart to make the brides very abstract and not show any real features, only implied.

Personally, while they do make me giggle, I'm sure sure it is wise to toy with a bride's emotions. However, slimfast has historically always marketed to women, especially moms, so this is REALLY nothing new. I'd be more concerned if they were marketing to skinny brides...

I am sure that I am going to get a ton of heat from this, but looking at it from a different angle and yes I was a plus size bride I had to pay what I call the "fat girl up charge" on my wedding dress. Slim Fasts business is weightloss, thier product is for people who are overweight or think they are overweight and which group wants to lose more weight other than before bathing suit season? Brides. from a marketing standpoint I think it is risque but smart campaign, I mean look at all the attention it is getting....

Like Brian said, sadly it will work for slimfast. Getting a rise out of people sells (just look we've already taken it viral)

One thing that I'll never forget which is probably the only thing good I remember about this relationship but I used to date a guy who was a radio DJ and before that he DJ'ed weddings and he really was a pompous ass that expected all women to look like thin models but he told me once that out of all the weddings he DJ'ed he thought every bride was just absolutely gorgeous no matter what her size, shape, looks etc. He said it took his breath away each time to watch the bride come out in her dress just glowing.

Ya i totally agree and do acknowledge that we shouldn't take ourselves so seriously..but I do disagree with an above post that we have "bigger problems", i mean that may be true but that totally minimizes the fact that this isn't just a slimfast problem; it's a cultural problem- perpetuating the idea that being overweight is something funny..our media can really get down some girls self-esteem and cause them to do terrible things to themselves, like eating disorders, self injury, etc. that my friend is a HUGE problem..sorry to sound like a bioch, i just see this in the mental health field often so its a passionate area of mine.

Bigger problems- as in stop getting worked up over an ad. We have bigger and more relevant issues going on that need more attention than this

I agree with Abigail. This is just one small symptom of an overwhelming, unhealthy obsession with weight in our culture, and the pervasive fatphobia that results from it. I disagree that the correct response is to ignore it; it may just be a symptom of a larger problem, but it's still a symptom, and worth noticing and talking about.

Nicole- while I agree we do have other issues. I posted this to start a discussion. I'm insulted based on some recent personal wedding related things that have happened to me. Normally I'm not offended or bothered by anything. Reality is yes I am a bit pudgy but FS loves me for me.

Again this is wider problem than a slim fast ad.. Ambivalence doesn't lead to change yet it is alive and well unfortunately. :-( I won't post anymore about it, I dont' mean to take it out on you, it's society that is the problem, just trying to increase some awareness :-)

@Abigail- please feel free. I posted this because I wanted to start a discussion. IMO the only way to spread awareness is to bring attention that leads to conversations about it.

Sorry if I have offended some of you. That certainly was not my intention. I personally try not to allow things like this (the ad) to get under my skin and i'm sorry if the ad itself has made you feel insulted in anyway.

On a Happier note: Happy Halloween Everyone, hope you have a fun and safe weekend!
