So quick poll...I have a gorgeous ring that I never want to take off. Who here sleeps with their rings on or doesn't and why? What's the protocol here?

I take mine off when I shower, at the gym, and when I bartend. If I take it off at home I make sure to put it on immediately following the ring-off-activity so I don't forget where I left it. Last week I woke up at night and it was not on my hand. I instantly panicked, got up, and ran downstairs and looked in all the usual places. Couldn't find it. Went upstairs and it was on my bed, I must have been sleeping right on top of it. No idea why I took it off in my sleep-it's not big enough to FALL off
I never take my ring off. It's insured so I don't worry too much about it snagging and it fits snug so I don't worry about it falling off.
I try to be careful when I'm putting lotion on to not get it all over my ring but a little bit isn't a bother, I brush it now and then to shine it up.
I'm a nursing student; it's low enough profile not to bust through gloves at work. Usually when I'm doing anything a little more rugged like mountain biking or rock climbing I have some pretty rugged gloves over it.
I could certainly see why other people take theirs off but with the way my ring is set up and the fact that my fingers don't swell I'm most comfortable with it on around the clock :-)
I only take it off to shower and if I'm cooking something yucky (making meatballs or stuffed peppers, any kind of dough...Basically stuff that could gunk up my ring)
I take mine off when I'm sleeping, because like PPs have said, my hands swell up at night. The only other time though is when I'm working out. Both me and my fiancé have cringed way too many times when I've hit it on rough metal.
Off. It gets uncomfortable (like my glasses do) when I get tired. I take it off and put it down an ear piece of my glasses before I fold them. That way I don't lose it and I don't forget to put it back on lol
My jeweler recommended never wearing it while sleeping, swimming, gardening, using power tools, and when using cleaning supplies. This is to help make the ring/jewelry last as long as possible.
His reasoning:
Sleeping - Risk of prongs coming lose over time, fingers swelling, and increased risk of losing it.
Swimming - High risk of losing it.
Gardening- Dirt makes the ring very difficult to clean and using gardening chemicals can sometimes cause damage.
Power tools - Obviously they can damage the ring if you're not careful
Cleaning Supplies - Harsh chemicals can damage jewelry. He does not even recommend people wash dishes while wearing jewelry.
Mine has a really prominent prong with a single stone, and not even a month after wearing it, one of the prongs started to look crooked. I don't even wear the stone anymore except for date night. He bought me a set so I just wear the band. And that comes off before I touch water.

I only take my ring off if I'm showering, cooking meat, or powerlifting. On days where I do powerlifting training, I wear a silicone ring in place of my e-ring.
ETA: I also take it off if I'm cleaning. Even though I use mostly natural products around the house, I still don't want to take the risk.
I take my engagement ring off to sleep but I wear my wedding band always unless I'm handling raw meat or doing something where the ring could catch and injure my finger (moving furniture comes to mind). I keep my engagement ring on a ring holder on my nightstand when I'm not wearing it.
I sleep with mine on. I read somewhere you should take it off so you don't lose stones while you're sleeping, but I disregard this. I only take it off to shower and clean and cook.
I take mine off when Im cooking with raw foods. Showering. I did however took my ring off and did cleaning around the house and got so busy I forgot where I put it talk about total anxiety so I try to not take it off for long periods of time just cook and shower
I sleep in all the rings I wear (3 total including engagement ring) and I feel completely naked without them. I do take it off when doing dishes or putting on lotion though.
I take mine off at night before I go to the gym and don't put it on again until morning. After the gym, I'm usually making dinner, cleaning up, taking a shower and then going to bed. All activities I don't like to wear my ring for.
I almost never take my rings off. The only time i have taken it off was when i had my hands in hair dye and when i am mixing meat for meatballs. I sleep with it on, clean, shower, swim, etc...
