So quick poll...I have a gorgeous ring that I never want to take off. Who here sleeps with their rings on or doesn't and why? What's the protocol here?

When my FH gave me a $100 promise ring a few years back, I slept in that. But the diamonds weren't real, and if I lost them, it wasn't a big deal. (I did end up losing some, and had to replace them with more CZ)
My engagement ring? It was $1000, one nice diamond, and I don't want to risk myself hitting it against the headboard in my sleep and knocking the diamond out and losing it, or sleeping wrong on it and bending the prongs so the diamond falls out.
This is a fine piece of jewelry that needs to be cared for correctly and treated delicately.
Here's what my jeweler told me:
1. Keep it in a safe place while you're sleeping
2. Don't wear it while exercising (especially weight lifting!)
3. Take it off for showers and baths (minerals in the water can wear gold, and the drain is a risk)
4. However, keep it ON in public restrooms because you risk accidentally leaving it by the sink or knocking it away to lose it--those drains are smaller anyway, usually not big enough for a ring to fit through (they do that on purpose)
5. Don't wear it while swimming or hiking or in any situation when it could slip off.
6. Seriously consider whether it's worth it to bring it on your honeymoon. Plan on swimming? Do you really want to leave it in your hotel room for room service to find? Better to be safe than sorry.
And if your ring is expensive enough, GET INSURANCE. Add it to your renters policy. Don't lose a $10k ring and end up with no hope of replacing it.
I take mine off when I sleep, shower, cook, and wash dishes. Nobody ever said I needed to, but I'm paranoid about losing it or doing something to ruin the finish of it.

I pretty much never take my ring off. I sleep, swim, workout, hike, work, clean, and anything else you can think of with my ring on. Unless I'm lifting weights at the gym (degloving is something I never want to experience).
I never take my ring off. I am horrible with remembering jewelry and prefer to just keep on what I like all the time. I have s thumb ring I've been wearing since I was 16 and I'm 37. HaHa!
I had the opposite problem, my hands were so cold in the night they shrunk a bit and I felt like it was going to fall off. I still wear it most nights though and even shower in it, I only take it off when kneading bread or making something messy in the kitchen.
I only take mine off before I shower or do my hair (ouch). I do have to turn it so the diamond is at my palm though when I sleep, otherwise I scratch my FH
