Should i postpone my wedding?

Kelsey, on April 30, 2020 at 2:39 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 6

Our wedding is scheduled for June 21st. We were about to send out invitations at the beginning of March but then COVID-19 happened and we decided to hold off on sending out invitations. We live 2 hours from one another so we made the hurried decision to elope and move in together on April 11th. I did not want to elope at first because I really wanted a wedding to share with my family and friends but we made a promise to one another that we would still have a wedding/reception. Our guest list is around 170. Anywho, it's April 30th and I'm really starting to wonder whether we should postpone the wedding. I would love any and all advice! I live in Raleigh, NC (USA) if that helps set the stage.

Does your state have any opening phases? I live in PA and apparently they’re releasing some of that information tomorrow.

I'm in MD and still planning on getting married on 7/11. I've made a modified guest list as well and my fiance and I are comfortable if we can only have 50 people at the reception.

    Hope this helps!

Thank god I've been waiting on guidelines. Unfortunately my wedding would’ve been next Saturday in PA.. now it’s in October so I hope I can still have it!

Me too!! Holding onto some hope for all of us fall/winter brides. Truthfully, I feel like we will be okay. And everyone keeps saying they don’t even know why I’m worrying because it’s so far away, but the state is taking it’s time to open back up😕 Hopefully tomorrow has some answers for us!!🤞🏻

I live about an hour and fifteen minutes from Raleigh (Greenville, NC). Our wedding is June 27th and we are going with it. I’m praying that Phase 1 will happen on May 9th and Phase 2 beginning the end of May. Governor Cooper is hopeful and so am I. Lol. I know we won’t have our 250 guest wedding but we will definitely have a wedding. Good luck with whatever you decide.

    Hi Kelsey,

Congratulations on your recent marriage!!! I'm sorry you have to think about postponing your wedding reception. It's a tough spot right now because there are so many unknowns.

The general consensus for June couples is that a decision to postpone should be made ASAP (by the end of April, which was yesterday). If you're able to host a reception with a group of 170 people by next month, I would be somewhat surprised. Has NC released any guidance on the reopening phases and/or timeline?

Obviously, you're not alone. Here are three other discussions with June brides:
