Share Your Proposal Stories!

Just for fun. No matter how it's done I think it's interesting how many different ways there are to propose. So, how did your future hubby propose to you? Was it a long time coming, or a spur of the moment thing? Casual or formal?

On July 7, 2011, our four and a half year anniversary, I came home from work and got ready to leave for dinner out to celebrate our little milestone. We were just about to leave so I asked if my FH was ready to go and he said "Yes but first..." and dropped down on one knee and said "Will you marry me?" to which I replied "Are you being serious??" and thought he was playing a mean joke since he always said he was going to just be kidding to get me all fired up. He pulled out the most gorgeous ring and of course I said "Yes!"

Not the most romantic but its exactly how my FH is and I wouldn't change it for anything Smiley smile

We were actually at a Hotel for a convention we go to every year. I was watching NCIS while laying on the bed. My FH actually didn't get my attention and started reciting a poem, which of course I did not hear because he didn't get my attention first. I turned around, seeing him talking out of the corner of my eye and I jumped out of bed. He asked me to be his wife, not will you marry me. I ran across the room as for some reason I had a very good feeling about the weekend. I grabbed a little baggie I had been carrying around with me with my grandfathers wedding band in it. I said "Not unless you will be my husband." Then we exchanged rings. Quincky-dink we gave each other heirlooms. I got an engagement ring that has been passed down three generations, and he of course got my grandfathers ring. Then I went nuts and started crying and after 5 minutes I ran down to the lobby and started freaking out. Got some free drinks from the hotels bar. =3 And two chocolate chip cookies!

One night we were in my dorm room with some of our friends in the living room and he took me to the bedroom (nothing inappropriate!) and I told him I loved him and he said I love you more and so I said prove it. He proposed to me and I said yes. However, it was a spur of the moment thing and he didn’t have a ring. About a month later we were hanging out with our friends at Panera Bread and I told one of the girls there that he had proposed and told her that I said yes but we were waiting until he could afford a ring. She just so happened to have her mother’s old wedding set on and she handed it to him while I wasn’t paying attention and he got down and proposed in front of all of our friends. I was in shock. At the time I didn’t even know he had a ring or if it would fit or anything. Needless to say I fell in love with the ring due to where it came from and I realized that night that I had some great friends and a truly amazing fiancé.

Christmas morning I woke and of course, first thing that you have to do is pee.. LOL, then I went to the kitchen to make coffee... went back to bedroom to get in bed and he had left the wrapped ring box on my pillow... I started freaking out, not that I expected it but we were kind of at that point (if you know what I mean). Anyway, I kind of blanked on the rest because my brain just went out the window.. I think he may have said something along the lines as it would be so proud and happy if I would say yes to being his wife. Of course I said yes..

For our entire relationship we lived 3.5 hours apart. We would drive on weekends to see each other. He was going to be coming to the school that I go to the next year for engineering. Well, during spring semester the College of Engineering has an event for students that will be coming there the next year. His parents really wanted to go to it so that weekend him and his parents drove here. My fiance and I went to a movie and dinner together. When we got back to my dorm he was acting a little odd. I kept asking what was wrong and he would say nothing. Eventually he asked me to sit in the chair at my desk, face the other way, and to close my eyes. So I did. When he said turn around he asked me to marry him. I jumped up, said yes, and hugged him. At this point I hadn't even seen the ring and I didn't notice that he was actually on one knee.

Apparently the day before he had called my mom, stepdad and dad to ask them if he could ask me to marry me which I am so happy about.

We were on vacation in St. Croix. On our last night there we planned to go to dinner to a place we had been earlier in the week because it had stellar sunset views on the beach. We parked in the parking lot and headed towards the stairs for the restaurant and he grabbed my hand and suggested we head down to he beach first to watch the sunset since it was our last night there. I knew then he was going to ask me as soon as he said that lol. He asked while we were sitting in the sand watching the sun set behind the beautiful bluffs lining the bay.

On Halloween 2009 Kevin (my FH) carved "Holly Will You Marry Me" in a pumpkin. He got down on one knee next to the pumpkin and proposed while holding a baby pumpkin with my e-ring on the stem. This took place at a Halloween party in front of my closest friends. It was Amazing!

Back in March FH and I were planning on going out to a friend's birthday party. We had to stop by my work and work out a couple things. Then we went out to a fabulous italian dinner. The food was so good! FH and I live in Boston and I currently work out of East Boston. The best view of Boston is from the East Boston side and it's truly magical. We go and take in the view whenever we're in the area.

Since we were eating italian close by, we walked over and looked at the skyline. Then, suddenly, FH drops down on 1 knee and proposes. I couldn't have been more shocked.

Afterwards, I realized that FH didn't look at me throughout the whole dinner. He was THAT nervous. LOL.

I was shopping for my sister's wedding when my FH sent me a text asking what I was doing. Told him planning a wedding. He asked if it was our wedding I was planning and I told him no because he had never asked me to marry him. When I got home he asked me. I told him I needed a ring since he didn't have one ready as it was sort of a spur of the moment thing. He bought a ring and asked me again. I said yes. He bought me another ring that he liked better and asked me again. Of course I said yes again. The second ring is a matching set whereas the first was not, so I do like it better.

Jeremy and I had been living together for over a year and one night I asked him, whats the point of getting married when we pretty much are? And he said babe, I promise you we will get married in a few years or so. This was three nights before we went out to celebrate NYE 2011. As we counted down to one I gave him a big hug and a kiss and as I tried to pull away he kept me to him and said in my ear that he couldnt imagine starting the new year off any different than to ask me to be his wife. So he got down on one knee....and here is the video! I love sharing it Smiley smile

All of our friends knew, my whole family...except for me...and apparently he had already had the ring for a month and kept it at my best friends house without me knowing!

We were in Vegas celebrating [or so I thought] our last 'free' time together before our last year of college began. On our first night there, we were getting all dressed up to go out & as we were about to leave, he said, "Hold on, one more thing." He pulled the ring out of his pocket, got down on one knee & asked me to marry him :]. I cried & laughed & never hesitated to say YES! We followed that evening up with a beautiful dinner where he had planned to propose but said he got too nervous. Cute, right ;]

Prelude: I knew he had a ring for a few months before hand and had sort of been bugging him when he was going to propose. I also had said I didn't want to be asked in a public place with people around.

Everyone (my parents, his parents, his sister and her fiance) were over at our place for Canadian Thanksgiving. We had finished eating dinner and dessert and were finishing watching the hockey game. It went into Overtime and then a shoot-out. Our team won. After the game they were doing the post-game interviews. My FH asked if we were watching it, I said no. He asked if we could mute it and asked me to come up and stand next to him. I was confused, thought it might be to tell everyone that we were happy they came over for dinner. Instead he told that we had been together for awhile, that he loved me and couldn't imagine being without me. He then got down on one knee, pulled the box out of his pocket and asked me to marry him. I was completely shocked and managed to say Yes.

John and I LOVE going to Winthrop. It's this little town in Washington, about a 3-hour drive from where we live. We love the long drive, all the time we have to talk, the scenery, but most of all we love getting fun pictures done. There's this place in Winthrop that does these old western type pictures, where you dress up as cowboys and stuff and then get your picture taken. We went for our anniversary in September and had a blast. As we were coming home, he asked if I'd like to do it again in about a month or so. Of course, I said yes and started planning our next trip. Fast forward a month later, and we're in the same place doing the same thing: getting more pictures. This time though, the photographer asked him if he "had a pose he'd like to do." He smiled, said "yup," dropped to one knee and proposed :-) I love him....

Mine is kinda lame. Hubby and I had been dating about nine months, we were out to dinner and out of the blue he said to me, "what kind of wedding would you like to have, a big one or small one?". We calmly discussed who we would invite etc. I was bursting on the inside. I knew that was his way of letting me know we were on the same page and that he wanted to marry me. I consider that my official omg moment. I went home and jumped up and down lol. A few months later he talked to me about setting the date, we discussed a date. He then told me "we need to get you a ring" and then took me ring shopping. We picked out the ring and ordered it and then when it came in he made it official and got down on his knee and proposed.

We were at a park feeding the ducks. I kept trying to hold both this hands to wrap them around me and he would only let me have one. (obviously the ring was in the other hand) I was getting confused and annoyed but ignored it. i ran out of bread and he went to grab some more as i continued to play with the ducks. when i noticed he was taking forever i turned around and he was on one knee. All i could say was "Brian thats not funny" until he opened his hand and i saw the ring. Of course tears flooded my eyes and I said Yes!!! Completely surprised

Um i guess it was kinda formal &a long time coming.

A little over a year into our relationship we moved in together,&the topic of marriage was casually brouught up sometimes. Once at the mall picking my new glasses, he dragged me into a Kay's jewelers&got my finger sized. I started to get anxious after that,&started wondering, Okay, when is gonna do it? It was kinda driving me a lil crazy,&I started to think it might never happen. But then about 2 1/2 yrs in, his mom started dropping hints about him possibly proposin to me in June sometime. I got really excited. We'd already had a boating trip planned for may though. She kept saying June though so I never thought anything of it. Apparently it was just a ruse to trick me though.

But on May 14, 2011, in the middle of a lake on a boat we'd rented that weekend, right before a bad storm,he asked me to marry him. I was so shocked,&it was the last thing in the world I was expecting at that moment. They tricked me real good. I had no idea!!

Wow I feel like the odd duck on here. So many couples have been together for so long before the engagement. For FH and I we knew on our first date that we had something special. By second date I met his mom, sister and nephews (not planned). As his mom was getting ready to leave that day she hugged me and whispered it's going to be nice to have girls in the family (she has all grandsons and I have 3 girls). Thought the woman was off her rocker!!! 6 weeks later FH came home I was having a bbq because in my little town every yr they do the truckers parade, it's all semi's going down the street with nothing but their running lights on (lame I know, but we have nothing better to do here. lol) It's actually really pretty, but anyway honey was just coming off the road (yes he's a truck driver which makes the story even more perfect) and I always run up to the truck when he gets home because I haven't seen him all week and give him a kiss. When I went to pull away he pulls out a little box
