Just for fun. No matter how it's done I think it's interesting how many different ways there are to propose. So, how did your future hubby propose to you? Was it a long time coming, or a spur of the moment thing? Casual or formal?

    I love reading y'all's stories!!

FH and I had been dating about 8 months. I knew it was coming, just didn't know when. We had looked at rings together, but told him he had to go back on his own, and surprise me. We were watching Star Wars (episode 3), and he got up to go to the bathroom. He sat back down, put his arm around me and just said "So, will you marry me?". I looked at him and just kept asking "really?!?". I didn't even realize he had his other hand (with the ring) resting on my arm. He finally said I should try it on, and I never actually said yes. Smiley smile

Come to find out he had asked for my dad's blessing the night before, but couldn't get a hold of him via phone, so he texted Dad. Dad was in the bathroom when he got it. Haha.

My dad later asked him why he chose that moment during Star Wars to propose. His answer was: I just got tired of waiting. Smiley smile

We went to Disney World on vacation this summer. Our second night there, we had dinner at Cinderella's Castle. FH had shown the ring box to the hostess when I wasn't looking, so we were seated at a table overlooking the park. Snow White came by our table and asked if we wanted a picture. He took a pic of me and Snow White, then asked if we could get one of all three of us. I handed the camera to the waiter and when I turned around, he was down on one knee with the ring and asked if I would marry him. After he proposed, our waiter brought over "just engaged" pins for us and we got to share our story with all the other Disney princesses! It was absolutely perfect Smiley smile

Mine was completely unexpected on my part - my FH likes to take his time doing things and adjusting to changes in his life. We had just moved in together and though we had talked about getting married, I never expected him to ask so soon. We had been talking about going to this really nice, really pricey restaurant in the town next to ours. Its right on the river, so its perfect for a romantic dinner. Out of the blue, on a Sunday, he decides we are going to have dinner there. After some amazing food and wine, we went for a walk on the river. We stopped to sit on a bench and were just talking about how pretty it was. I was looking away and he said, I have a question. I said what, not thinking anything of it. I look over and he has a ring box in his hand. I shrieked (yes, shrieked) Are you serious?!?!? He said yes, will you marry me? I said yes, of course I will marry you and then I started crying. He says the look on my face was priceless. I never saw it coming. CONT...

Everyone knew except me - when I called my sister, she said OMG I have been waiting on this call all day. It was simple, but it was perfect for us. I wouldn't change a thing about it. It worked out perfect for him because two days earlier, I had forgotten my phone at home when I went to work. So he used my phone to call my Dad and ask for his blessing. He was going to wait until Christmas, but my dad convinced him to ask now. He told FH how much I loved him and that sealed the deal!

My FH and I had been together almost 2 and a half years when he proposed. It was completely unexpected since he always said that he 'never wanted to get married again'. And of course I had believed him so I was never expecting a ring. Well, on my birthday last year, in front of a few of our close friends (who already knew it was gonna happen), he gave me my birthday card and my ring was taped inside and he wrote 'will you marry me' in the card. And one of my best friends was on her way over to celebrate my birthday so as soon as she pulled in the drive way I ran outside and showed her and we both started crying in the middle of the street. Then I had to call everyone else who wasnt able to come over, and they already knew. I will give it to them though, they all kept a secret really well......

@Elizabeth C. my FH kinda did the same thing lol

I went down to visit him in North Carolina. It was supposed to be for a week but ended up being a month. The second week in we went to the movies, but the movie wasn't starting for a while so he suggested we go to the mall. He wanted a smoke before going in so we were sitting in his truck when he just picked my hand up and said, "So, I guess we need to get you a ring." It didn't even register at first what he meant so I asked, "A ring? Why?" He just grinned and said, "Isn't that what people usually do when they get married?" I asked him if he was kidding and than said yes and just kind of went happy overload. According to him I asked him if that meant he wanted to marry me. It was so unexpected. We went and got me a wedding set that day.

December 21, 2009 - we were in Disney World and we had just come back from a long day at Epcot (p.s. we go to Disney every year and I always thought he was going to propose at the fountain in Morocco) so when we left Epcot and I was ringless, I was a little sad. But, we were so exhausted I didn't care!! We got back to the Wilderness Lodge where we were staying and he said "let's go for a walk" I just wanted to go to bed, but I thought "why not! it'll only be 5 minutes!" so we walked out back to the pool and waterfall/geyser at the Lodge. The fireworks at Cinderella Castle were going on and you could see them in the distance. I wanted him to turn around and watch them with m because it was romantic, but he kept turning towards me - I was getting frustrated!!! And before I knew it, he was down on his knee. This is the part that gets fuzzy - I SWEAR he said "I love you, will you marry me?" but he promises that he had this whole big speech about being his Cinderella forever and how much he

My sad and pathetic proposal: We have been together 10 years, I got tired of waiting since we talked about getting married all the time. We even have a running joke that we say "you know one day I'm gonna make you marry me". So Jan 11th I woke up ready to get married, started making arrangements and txted him at work "you know how I tell you I'm gonna make you marry my? Well I have a reserved a place, a florist and Natalie's gonna be my MOH. So I need you to show up not naked on NYE" His response "Can we order sausage from TX?" I respond "Yes it'll be here Tuesday" That weekend we went and picked out engagement rings.

On October 20th I met Brett on his lunch break and we went for a walk, it was our 3 year dating anniversary. We came upon Trinity Church which I've always loved and out of the corner of my eye I saw him get down on one knee. He gave me a nice long thought out proposal and I just started crying (luckily I had sunglasses on!).

It was funny because we were right in the hustle and bustle of NYC so a whole crowd of people was lingering around and they started clapping when I said yes.

FH and I went on a trip for his birthday and his daughter's birthday to Bonaire (in the caribbean) with his cousin and her husband. FH and his cousin are scuba divers, and they often go together.

So he asked if I would try. So they put her gear on me and we went diving right in front of the house we were renting.

The next day, FH's birthday, he asked if I would come a little further out. So I put on his cousin's gear again, she put on her husband's gear, and we went out. It was amazing diving for the first time. We held hands the entire time under water.

Then he handed me off to his cousin. I got nervous, started thinking something was wrong. She led me away, and we swam a few minutes.

Then we turned and went back to him. FH handed me a little notepad that you can write on underwater. It said "Turn over." I thought he wanted ME to turn over, so I started trying to turn! hahaha But he stopped me and pointed to the pad.

On the other side, it said contd

WILL YOU MARRY ME? Circle yes or no.

Of course, I circled YES and he got on his knee on the bottom of the ocean and opened the ring box. He put it on my finger under water and we swam to to the surface.

    I was NOT EXPECTING that!!!

Here's a pic when he put on the ring..... still feels like yesterday!

    Jamie, you're cracking me up.

My FH is one of the most sweet and kind people I have ever met. He's also a little reserved at times, especially in situations such as proposals, etc. It was our 4 year anniversary, we both took off the day. I got him a Nook as a present and he was thrilled to get it.

So he gives me a hug and says "I think we are ready, want to get married?" No bended knee, no ring collar around my dogs neck, no hot air balloon....just us both in our PJ's on the couch! Of course I did say yes, and he took me out to dinner to celebrate. He opened up a little bit and started talking more about how excited he is, and how he had been waiting a long time to ask me to marry him. He said that he even had it planned out how he was going to ask me, but I guess he felt like asking me that moment on the couch. I honestly think he's someone that tip toes in the water, and then when he realizes everything is fine, he takes the plunge.

FH and I had just gotten back from a vacation to Disney World, I thought he was going to propose while we were on vacation, but he knew i was expecting it Smiley winking. So no ring. About a week after we got back he took me to our local jewelry store which also happens to sell a purse designer I like so i thought we were going to look at purses, but once we got inside, we were looking at engagement rings and he says "pick one" i was like what? He goes you heard me "pick one", so i picked out the one I liked. He put it on layaway. Then a week later, he surprised me and took me to pick it up, came home and got down on bended knee and asked! <3 It wasn't a typical or super romantic proposal but he put a lot of thought into it and it was perfect for us!

On August 3, 2008, I decided to propose to NotFroofy. You know those stories about the romantic proposals at the couple's favorite restaurant, or in a scenic outdoor spot, where the man gets down on one knee and presents the woman with a ring? Those weren't me. For one thing, in most proposals, the man knows the woman will say yes before he even asks. For us, even the possibility of our being able to get married was so new that we really hadn't discussed it. I already knew that NotFroofy wanted to be with me for the rest of our lives. But with the legal murkiness surrounding same-sex marriage, I wasn't sure whether NotFroofy would think it a good idea. And I didn't want her to think that she had to marry me in order to stay with me.

I therefore spent much of the day trying to get up the nerve even to ask. My tension was so obvious that NotFroofy kept asking me what was wrong, sure that I was mad at her about something. Finally, I sat down next to her on the day bed in her study, and blurted out something really suave like, "Umm, so what would you think of the idea of getting married." Fortunately, she said yes!

At that point, we discovered the first of the wedding traditions that would require adaptation: who, if anyone, got the engagement ring. However, it turned out that neither one of us really wanted one, so we never got one.
