Scared To Go On My Alread Booked Honeymoon!

Anonymous, on May 7, 2012 at 2:31 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 24

I know it sounds crazy.. But I have never been on a train, or plane. We booked our honeymoon for one of the sandals resorts in Jan. The flights are even paid for. I wasn't scared when I booked it, and now I'm thinking to myself... One problem.. I have never flew before. Now that the time is getting near its really starting to kick in that I'm going to get on a plane! It's too late to cancel and I don't know what to do. FH says everything will be okay and that its the safest way to travel, but I'm still scared. Anyone else feeling this way?

Not feeling that way now, but I've been there before. After 911 we went to FL and caught a flight I was okay up until I got on the plane and we were about to leave then I lost it. Tears flowed and my mama had to come sit with me. However, it was a great flight and I have been on 2 more since then. Hope this helps. But as long as you got God and FH you will be okay. I understand that it would be scary if you've never been on a plane. But it really is the safest way to travel! And it only lasts a few hours before you're there and don't have to worry about it anymore Smiley smile

Can you take something to help you sleep while you're on the plane? Then you can just pass out and not even worry about it! haha

I guarantee that once you're there, the honeymoon will be well worth the plane ride. And you'll probably get there and realize that flying isn't scary at all and get a total travel bug Smiley winking

I get nervous flying on planes too...try and find something to occupy yourself with for take off and landing. During the flight you'll most likely have a movie to help pass the time and take your mind off of flying.

It will be okay. Smiley smile

Don't be scared, it's a wonderful first experience you get to have with your husband Smiley smile. Tips: wear comfy slip on shoes, read all the items that are prohibited when traveling by air to avoid security issues, eat a nice meal a few hours pre flight so you arent full or hungry, bring headphones, bring a sweatshirt if you get cold easily.

Have fun! Sandals resorts look so nice, definetly worth having a flight!

You will be okay. It's just a plane. Planes are safer than cars… If you're really nervous though you should bring some sort of anxiety med. Valium or Xanax… your doctor should be able to set you up. FH used to get nervous on planes and he would just have a cocktail~ he's gotten much better about it though.

Thanks ladies. I thought about getting something to make me sleep through the entire flight so that I can just sleep it out but thought against it. I don't want me being scared to ruin things for FH.

I've flown a lot for many years, Edna and the take-off still scares me a little. I bring a real book to read (they really don't want you to have electonics on during takeoff and landing) and just concentrate on that. I don't usually look out the windows either. After we've taken off, I'm totally fine, but for those 3-5 minutes I'm a little nervous.

If you're very scared, you can go to the doctor and they can prescribe you something to get you through the first flight. I think once you see that it isn't that bad (really it's not), then you will be a-ok, but sometimes it's about not knowing Smiley smile

If your feelings get to be too much, talk to your dr. There are meds that they can prescribe that you can take about an hour before the flight leaves and they will just help you stay calm. They wont make you sleepy.

I have to have these when I fly.

    Good luck sweetie!

If it makes you feel any better i have probably flown over 200 times in my life and I'm just fine. Big planes, little planes, really little planes (my parents own a one of a kind experimental 4 seater plane).

The take off is the worse because sometimes you get that roller-coaster tummy in your chest feeling, and bring gum to chew to pop your ears.

If your afraid of heights, maybe try not to sit next to the window! I like the window because I can lean against it to sleep, but you might like being on the aisle more. Will probably make you feel less "trapped" too, with easy access to the bathroom Smiley smile

Or if you do sit next to the window, you could just pull down the shade so you can't see out!

    @ Shelli lol

@ Andrew I will have to look into that. Now that I see how many of you didn't die from flying I might be okay, but may need something just incase.

Thanks you guys! I just don't want to freak FH out anymore, because we have discussed this already I was just not over it yet.

Honey I totally hear you! I detest flying. The first time I ever flew was on a non-stop flight to Europe. I was terrified and couldn't sleep the whole time I was on the plane. I've flown on several occasions since and I still get nervous - though not as bad as my inaugural flight. It's just one of those things that some people have issues with, but you will be okay. Maybe have a glass (or two!) or wine before you get on board to calm your nerves. Just don't show up drunk or they won't let you on the plane! Smiley smile

I understand you completely. But my love for travel overrides my fear. At times I've ordered me a Crown Royal & Coke. But don't drink alcohol if you are the type to get loud, a little rowdy. WE don't want you being kicked off the plane LOL!!!

Not sure if this will help but I have panic attacks when going over bridges. They are so bad that to the point I can't drive the freeway anymore because I can't turn around if I come to a bridge. But I love to fly. I even love sitting by the window when I fly. Take something to calm your nerves. Not put you to sleep but calm your nerves. Put some good music on your Ipod or mp3 or whatever you like to listen to or download a good movie on your Ipad or bring something to watch on your dvd player and before you know it the time will fly by. Just be sure to have your feet covered b/c it can get cold.

It's totally fine. The first time I ever flew, it was a 10 hour flight to Europe when I was 19. It does feel a little weird but once you are in the air you don't even realize you are flying, especially if you have a good book or movie to keep you occupied. I do suggest bringing some Dramamine though just in case you feel sick. Enjoy your honeymoon! With your new husband by your side, it will be easy going Smiley smile
