Scared To Go On My Alread Booked Honeymoon!

Living most my childhood overseas I spent a LOT of time on planes going back & forth from the US to Africa or Europe so I can't relate directly. However, a few years ago my DH had to go on a buisness trip & had his first plane experience & he was pretty nervous. I asked him to give some tips for a first time flyer and he said this:

1. Get a window seat. You'll feel less claustrophobic & being able to view the world for the first time at a birds eye view will blow your mind.

2. Get to the airport early & go to one of the many bars to get yourself a drink.

3. Bring a book, iPod or reading material to keep your mind occupied during the flight

4. When the flight attendant asks you want you'd like to drink... Ask for something wi alcohol in it.

My advice: WINDOW SEAT! seriously, the view is incredible. Take a deep breath and try your best to relax. Its really not so scary & you might actually really end up enjoying it!

Hey Edna, I work for Southwest Airlines, so I'm around planes all the time. Occasionally I would get a little nervous when flying, but what has reassured me is seeing how many flights take off and land at an airport and how few problems every come up. Everything about the flights are carefully planned out so that the crew can safely handle just about any situation that comes up. If there is time I recommend asking if you can go up front and see the cockpit and talk to the pilots for a few minutes. I know most of the time at Southwest everyone is very friendly and will take the time to answer all the questions you have. It's very reassuring being able to talk to the people that will be flying the plane and have them explain exactly how things work. If you find yourself getting nervous and have more questions, ask a friendly looking flight attendant. Part of what has helped me become more comfortable with flying is seeing how calm the flight attendants are even when there is turbulance.

I've talked to a couple of flight attendants that use to be scared of flying themselves, but got used to it pretty quickly after they became flight attendants. If you can, I would do like Kimi said and get a window seat. Once your up in the air, you will definitely want to look out the window, because everything looks so cool from the birds eye perspective!
